Help! Printer not printing text.

I'm using Windows XP and have an HP Deskjet 3930 printer. The text won't print. Also, some graphics won't print either.

I refilled the black ink cartridge two days ago but don't know if that's the problem or not. I doubt it, but had the same problem on a Lexmark after refilling the black cartridge and ended up throwing the whole thing in the trash and buying the current HP printer.

Here's some examples of what's happening - Google maps will print the map but not the directions. Even copying the text directions to Word, it still won't print the text. Changing the text to another color in Word still doesn't do the trick.

No text documents in Word will print no matter what color.

I've tried to print web pages with text and pictures/graphics and none of the text will print and only some of the praphics.

Also, links will only print the underline and nothing else.

Any ideas how to fix this problem?

Where were you before I bought it? Lexmark isn't any better.

It is. Maybe I'll try reinstalling it.

Try going in to the Maintenance section of the print screen and run a nozzle check and cleaning operation.

Sounds like a software problem, or bits of paper in the mechanism. All printers are susceptible to both after they are used long enough.

I am assuming that you still have the original setup CD and have access to the internet to dowload the updated full install if there is one available.
Then unistall the printer completely. If you know where the original install files were placed, make sure that they are all gone, then reinstall the software for it.
Take a look around inside the printer to the extent that you can and make sure no bits of paper are stuck in the sensors that trigger the paper feed and in cartridge.

You didn't say how old the printer is. If it's more than a few years it should last longer than this. HP quality and reliability has suffered a bit in the last few years (management issues).
I would still buy another HP if I needed a printer. Hang in there.

Call HP and have them walk you through the process. They'll work out the kinks, they did it for me.
