Well this sucks--the Caps are playing the Thrashers tonight but since it's a home game it's blacked out to me on my computer (Caps are my local team). But they're playing the Flyers tomorrow in an away game so hopefully they'll show it. Everyone else who actually has cable--have fun watching it!

Never mind; must be blacked out too. Since I support an out of market team I don't have to worry about blackouts.

Sorry...

Sabres vs. Rangers tonight. Sabres have lost their leading scorer Maxim Afinogenov due to a separated shoulder injury last night. He was checked hard into the wall and is expected to be out for 2-3 weeks. Without Afinogenov, it'll be tough to defeat the team of Jagr and Lundqvist, but the Sabres still have Spacek and Numminen (who is approaching the record for most NHL games ever played by a European, BTW), Drury, and Kotalik, so there's still hope.

Kotalik just got swarmed by a bunch of Rangers. Commercial break came right after the refs separated them.

Insteresting interview with Henrik Lundqvist--he was fishing for tarpon down in Florida, but a 12-foot hammerhead shark came up and got attached to the line along with the tarpon! The shark was only a tad smaller than the boat, and for tarpons you need a large boat. (But I guess if you've lived most of your life in Sweden you just don't know these things). Anyway, the shark unattached itself and they reeled in the tarpon, which weighed 160 pounds, but it wasn't over yet--another shark, a smaller 5-foot one, got stuck on the hook and they ended up catching a tarpon and what looked like a juvenile mako shark!

Two Sabres palyers get penalties simultaneously. Two refs raised their hands at two separate times about a second apart. Buffalo's really fighting tonight, this is gotta be their fifth or sixth penalty tonight. Guess they're trying to win this one for Afinogenov.

Petr Prucha just scored. Rangers lead now, 2-1.
Better try harder Sabres, Affy expects more of you.

Fedor Tutin made an awesome hip check..sent his opponent toppling over him practically doing a summersault against the wall and on the ice, LOL.

Paetsch just got injured as a stick slams into his face, giving him a bloody nose. Good grief, first Afinogenov now Paetsch! And Spacek got a minor injury last night too! The Sabres aren't doing so well on the medical front lately...

The Rangers are getting another power play after this commercial break. They've scored both their goals on PPs, something tells me they'll score a third...

Poor Marty Straka got slashed twice in the fingers, and while he gets and ice pack his team gets a power play. Kotalik is in the penalty box, and--GOOD GRIEF! now Petr Prucha gets his in the face with a puck! "This is Jaroslav Spacek", the announcer says. Spacek fired the puck at Prucha, and now his nose is bleeding. Geez how many players are going to get injured in this game?! Looks like the Rangers aren't doing so well on the medical front either.

My bad, he gets hit in the face...aaaaand I was right, the Rangers did indeed score their third goal on this power play. 3-1.

And a rather wild second period has come to an end. Spacek beaned Prucha in the nose with a puck, Paetsch gets a stick in the face from Betts, Tutin sends someone summersaulting backwards over the wall, and Jagr trips a guy with his stick.

...and Straka gets slashed twice in the fingers. And a Sabre shoves a Ranger cleaninto the goal. Still 3-2 though.

And as soon as I type that, Prucha returns...

I wanna know what' up with Lundqvist. Is he injured or something? He hasn't been playing for awhile and has been replaced by Kevin Weekes temporarily. Maybe the shark bit him...haha no, I was joking.

YES! Pominville ties the game 3-3 with 11:47 left! The Sabres are known for coming back and tying late in the last period, but considering their fiasco against Boston a few days ago, 11:47 is pretty soon!

Oh yeah, by the way, while we're on commercial break, let's go back to the Caps-Thrashers game. The Caps lost 4-3 :( It was Ovechkin vs. Kovalchuk--may the best Russian win. (And it turned out to be Kovalchuk...). The Caps played the Flyers last night but once again, despite the fact that it was an away game, it was blacked out to local viewers.

Jagr fell on his shoulder, sort of tripping over his own feet, and now he's in pain too, adding to the already large number of patients teams' doctors will have to be seeing...

I tuned in with 2 minutes left in OT and watched the end.
Toronto beat them 4-1 last night..
They bounced right back today with the comeback win.

Yeah, and the Rangers were a pretty tough team to beat. Do you know what happened to Lundqvist? He hasn't been playing lately...Weekes has taken over temporarily.

Well the elections were a disaster and FReepers are depressed, but maybe some hockey will cheer us up. Red Wings vs. Oilers tonight, 8 PM EST. I'll be back to post then.

In other hockey news, Jagr got hit in the mouth with a stick and might lose some teeth. I guess, for a player of his skill level, it wasn't possible to go through an entire career without losing any teeth. And Danny Markov got his shoulder injured somehow. What is it with these Russian players injuring their shoulders? First Malkin, then Afinogenov, now Markov...
