What Next? Slavery Reparations?
Free Republic ^ | 11/08/2006 | Loud Mime

Posted on 11/08/2006 5:39:12 AM PST by Loud Mime

For many years Representative John Conyers has continued to introduce the same legislation that will take money from persons who committed no crime and give it to people who didn't suffer; it's called Slavery Reparations (HR. 40)

Although that bill ended up in the trash heap, along with 99% of the rest of congress's work, the Democrats now have the opportunity to bring their issues to the forefront and stop blaming the republicans for stopping them.

There are plans for mandatory health care for the poor, such as HR 2133, the Health Security for All Americans Act. It provides help mainly for the poor; but won't the assured raise in minimum wage take workers from that coverage?

Soon to be speaker Pelosi said she loves tax cuts, which is a risible statement; but will she be able to follow the democrat line and tax investments and estates out of the US? Will the winfall tax (HR 4276) for oil companies now become law? Will the estates of families now be taxed into oblivion because they had the nerve to be successful?

Just a sidenote here; Does anybody know if the Kennedy family pays Estate Taxes? Just wondering....

We can now look forward to more laws against influencing congressmen such as Senator Feingold's S. 1398 and S. 3740. As corruption is now measured by financial support instead of deviation from constitutional authority, there may be a time that we can't donate to the politicians at all.

Of course, voting will be easier. With the Democrats in power we may rest assured that there will be no need to provide a photo ID or proof of citizenship in these matters.

But, there's a silver lining: if you don't earn too much in the "new America," you should be provided for.

This new Congress will provide opportunities for us all. Personally, I plan on hiring illegal immigrants to protect endangered species from various diseases by conducting research on the stem cells from unborn babies. I will locate the facility in New Orleans.

Of course, I should not be too successful, otherwise I will pay confiscatory taxes and lose my free child care, health care, increased tuition assistance, and, hopefully, my new auto insurance aid.

But there is some hope. In this last session of congress, some 14,000 bills were introduced. Less than 400 became law, including bills that named post offices and federal buildings. So, Congress is only 1% efficient. Let's hope the Democrats are as inept.

uh, no. what is next, is we are letting our guard down and we will have yet another attack.

The dems believe America is evil, and needs to go away as we stand today. the new America will be comprised mainly of its' enemies living within.

It is as if this nation has been handed a trojan horse and will be willing to self destruct.

Reperations? Over my dead body. Literally. I won't see ONE CENT of my money go to pay someone who was never a slave a "reperation" for being one.

I'm sorry you see this as a rant. I specifically identified legislation that they had proposed in an effort to post credible information.

Did I fail in this matter?

While I fully expect the Democrats to self-destruct over the next two years, I will be very concerned for America's future as they do so.

Best the Republican learn how to play hardball over the next two years -- it is a learned skill, and they will have plenty of experienced instructors to guide their development!

That's right... you won't see it... it'll be taken out of the defense-budget.

In regards to the Kennedy family and estate taxes, when Rose Kennedy died, they (the Kennedys) made certain that her estate was dispersed under Florida law, rather than Massachusetts law, because Florida estate taxes were much lower. Rose hadn't lived in Florida for many years....she was a Massachusetts resident at the time of her death.
A separate set of rules for the beautiful people.

I hope Conyers does introduce a reparations bill again and I hope this time the media really plays it up big time.

It has almost no chance of passing and if by some twisted miracle does pass, hello republican majority in '08.

I wouldn't describe your thread as a rant. No, you've a point to it, and your thoughts are valid..but perhaps as part of a larger thread signally "what's ahead". There are a lot of those threads around, & they could be consolidated.

Yours was the latest and the tipping point for me.

What's next is gridlock and George Bush finally getting some use of the VETO PEN. An era is of Republican control is over and might be for a LONG TIME. The majority of the American people no longer want us fighting the war on terror. They have fully rejected the Bush doctrine and republicans. The dems now need to show that they can lead. They now have to actually give details. The spotlight is on them.

The democRATS can now safely propose any legislation they wish over the next two years, knowing it won't pass.

In 2008, they can say to the appropriate affected parties, "Look at our voting record. We tried to get gay marriage, we tried to get a $20 minimum wage for you, we tried to get free healh care for all, we tried to get you reparations, we tried to double social security payments, yada yada."

"So in 2008, vote democRAT so we have the numbers to implement these changes."

Can't you hear it?

Using history as a judge, when Rose Kennedy died, she was considered a FL resident, despite not having left Hyannisport for many years. Think you or I could have gamed the system that way to avoid MA tax?

It has almost no chance of passing and if by some twisted miracle does pass, hello republican majority in '08.

Are you comfortable with that 08 prediction on this issue?

Just wait until 20 - 80 million newly minted mexican American citizens start voting and overwhelm the conservatives and republicans in this country forever.

No country's body politic can make up for that type of influx of non citizens with no loyalty or values held in pride by that country.

My point is that the slavery reparations are going to seem like small fish when those voters demand reparations for the lands "taken" from them by us grubby white gringos.

If the Dems hand out reparations, where will they find the money for the rest of their pet projects? Even they can figure out that the public isn't an endless trough.

It was a bad year for Republicans locally, state-wide, and nationally.

After seeing what a Dem House is really going to look like, a lot of independents/cut & runners will come back. Especially when they realize how unhinged the lefties really are and are revealed to be as crazy as we here at FR already know.

Show me an ACTUAL US owned slave and his ACTUAL US Citizen owner... Then we'll see what we can do about arranging "reperations" between the two parties.

Otherwise, it's blatant theft... and I for one won't stand for it.
