In these terrorist times, I always felt safe with Donald Rumsfeld as Secretary of Defense. I also think our American military will miss him. A couple of years ago I watched on TV as Mr. Rumsfeld made an appearance before our troops and the troops went crazy for him. Thank you for your service to America Mr. Rumsfeld! And I also think Mr. Rumsfeld's "resignation" is a huge mistake.

Well, head for the hills folks. It's going to be a bumpy ride ahead.

I'm sure we will return the WOT into a law enforcement problem only.

Yes, Rumsfeld had the intelligence and foresight to initiate changes in the military to make it more adaptable to asymetrical warfare. Like all reformers who upset the status quo he was attacked by all those whose comfort was disturbed by new ideas.

He's a remarkable American who - in his 70's - offered his service once again to his country in time of crisis. It's too bad that Bush threw him overboard after an election to pander to the new House Democrats.

Also, if Bush was sincere all these years about our progress in Iraq and Rumsfeld's great contribution to it,
why was he cashiered just after a congressional election which the Dems won?

At least Bush should spare us the crap about wanting "new perspectives". That's almost as bad as the "more time with my family" crock.

At least Pelosi and Harry Reid were happy - for the moment!

"Rush said today that Bush threw Rumsfeld under the bus and is already pandering to Pelosi and the House Dems. And - that he was tired of "carrying water" for phony Republicans who are NOT conservatives but are more interested in getting good reviews from the drive-by media. I think he's got a point."

He has a point. Welcome to the conservative movement. We've been saying this for months.

Dividing Iraq three ways is impossible and gives the insurgency impetus.

Thanks so much Mr. Rumsfeld. You have been a wonderful leader for our troops, an inspiration to our country and a thorn in the backside of our enemies. History will look back on this time and will honor your efforts.

Your advice and counsel will be greatly missed in the meantime.

Absolutely! I would encourage anyone not familiar with his career to at least read a brief bio of this great American and patriot. Space prohibits that here; suffice it to say that from his graduation from Princeton to the present at age 74 this man has selflessly and brilliantly dedicated his entire life to service to America.

His biography is the sort our kids should read to become inspired. He's a modern hero and embodies the highest ideals of patriotism and public service.

I believe you. I'm glad he did. And yes, I have GREAT respect and admiration for Don Rumsfeld.

His service and dedication to this nation has been exemplary. Above and beyond. The man "gets it." He writes some witty poetry too.

Love the smile, Uncle Don. I'll miss ya.

..and I still can't understand, WHY it was so important for Bush to announce this, ON this day, after the GOP lost control of Congress... especially since our enemies were watching the elections so intently.. couldn't he wait a week or two?

Thank You Mr. Rumsfeld for your great and long service to America. God Bless
