Huddle over 49ers' pending move unlikely to save game for S.F.

When San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and 49ers co-owner John York sit down and try to clear the air over the collapse of the team's Candlestick Point stadium deal, it's likely to be a very stiff affair.

That's because in the two days between York's 11th-hour call to Newsom to deliver the news that he was going to try to move to Santa Clara and Sen. Dianne Feinstein's call for a time-out, a lot of water went under the bridge -- none of it very pretty.

That was evident when Newsom emerged from Friday's meeting in Feinstein's office and declared, "I think we are wildly overreacting to (the significance of) this meeting -- there was not much there, there.''

The mayor made his feelings for York plain when he said Thursday that the 49ers boss hadn't been a "straight-shooter" in the stadium talks. And the suspicions seem to be mutual, if York's comments to other San Francisco officials are any indication.

For starters, York has been in a slow boil over Newsom not returning his calls. And he apparently has come to the conclusion that the mayor can't be trusted to hang tough.

"There was that whole deal over that business where the 49ers were working to get state law changed so that this new deal might not have to go back to the voters,'' said one San Francisco supervisor who has talked with the York family.

When Newsom was hit with some bad press about a "backroom deal," he immediately called for a vote of the people. From the Yorks' standpoint, it was a case of a PR-conscious politician "jumping" -- and they were afraid he might jump again, said the supervisor, who requested anonymity because of the precariousness of the negotiations.

Isn't there a garbage dump on the other side of 101 just west of Candlestick Point?? Seems to me that many times when I drive past there, I smell some pretty "funky" odors wafting across 101 toward the Point. Not so sure I would want to live over there in a housing development. The aroma might get to be a bit much. However, I will admit that I have never attended a game at Candlestick Park (or whatever they are calling the stadium this week), so I can't say for sure.

I liked the comment made by one of the SF city councilman earlier this week (or whatever they are called). He was commenting upon the fact that the owner of the 49er's said that even if they move the 49er's to Santa clara, they will still call them the "San Francisco" 49er's. The SF councilman basicly threatened the owner of the 49er's with legal action if he kept "San francisco" in the name of the team.

If I am the owner of the 49er's, my first reaction to his threat is "or what"?? You can't copyright the name of a city. I would guess that he has the right to give the team any name he wants. He could even call the team the Kansas City 49er's if he wanted to. It's a free country.

So, if I am the owner of the 49er's, and I move them to Santa clara, and still call them the San Francisco 49er's, I am not going to have a postive reaction to any marxist pig city of SF councilman who thinks he is going to make an issue of it. If I am the owner, I will be out in front of the SF councilma's office saying things like "So, what ya got to say about it??", and "Bring it!!!".

Newsome and his elitist Supes are working to pass a law demanding that all businesses operating in San Francisco pay for the universal medical coverage of every single person living in San Francisco. More than likely it will be on a sliding scale.

49ers had best leave San Francisco.

The Stupidvisors of SF, will ultimately succeed in driving all major revenue producing corporations out of the city...

The exodus started decades ago - and proceeds to this day.
Homosexual interests have become the primary interests of the fudge packing Stupidvisors..

How tourists can continue to frequent restaurants and hotels in the city -- must lack any imagination of the risks involved..

When we MUST go into the city - we carry chem-wipes to wipe handles or hands after touching ANYTHING in public..

The 49ers have not won a superbowl since they left Rocklin as a summer camp; they won 5 here. I used to drive over to Sierra College early in the morning ,sit in the stands and watch Jerry Rice's workout. I miss those days.

Good idea, but I'd be thinking about changing the name of the team to the California 49ers. Broader appeal and all that.
