One thing I should point out abotu that religion- These people use it as a 'test' of faith- God didn't 'test the faith' of the Jews- Their faith had nothign to do with God protecting them from the poison- it was ALL God that protected them wether they had faith or not. The church is abusing God's word and putting a 'works based' faith burden on their followers- The Fact that peopel today HAVE died from the bites should tell them that God no longer promisses His porotection from venom- but alas, they attribute hte deaths to some failure on the parishoners part which is against Biblican priciples- Certain Charismatics do the same thing as do 'faith healers'-

From my reading of the bible they only ones that would be safe from the bites were the Apostles. Namely Paul, Paul knew he would go to Rome, therefore he was not concerned about the bite of that snake. Others should think twice. This is the problem of some of these offshoot denominations, they tend to focus on the minuet.
The only thing I ever saw from shooting a snake a close range with a shotgun was "blow away".

It's not as if they banned keeping garter snakes or corn snakes. Anyone dumb enough to play around with these things absent years of trianing is also dumb enough to get somebody else killed ny them. This is one area where I'm perfectly happy to have government regulation.

I hate snakes. I would be more than happy for all of them to be extinct. That said, I'm just as bad as everyone else but we don't want government control unless it directly affects us. I think people are stupid to have these things in their house but as long as it is in their house......
Speaking of Brown Recluse, did you see the spot on the news a couple weeks ago about the Spider House in Madison County? There are so many Brown recluse that they can't even stay in the house. Exterminators can't get rid of them. They showed traps set after the last time they tried to get rid of them and they all had spiders in them. His insurance co - said haha, no way. How could you ever sell a place like that, or even live next door.

Obviously I'm not advocating snake handling (why don't those folks drink poison, too?) but the Apostles were not the only ones.
But they don't stay in their houses. Dig around a little and you'll find some stuff about the problems they're having with pythons getting loose in the Everglades. It's only a matter of time before one of these things eats somebody's toddler.

I would be ok with the government banning and exterminating all snakes. No selling, no breeding. No pets. I could also make an exception in this case.

Actually, I was quoting a line from the "Commodore's steps" play by Venedikt Erofeev. One of the characters there - a capo of a mental hospital room - compares another character to a snake - a mamba - which, according to him, is so poisonous that from its bite a man dies thirty seconds before he's bitten. Attribution must be given, and better late than never.
I live in Indpls and I wasn't aware of snake handling going on around here. I thought it happened in North Carolina mountains. Learn new things everyday.
