Ballwin — An early-morning fire that destroyed the Seventh Inn restaurant in Ballwin was an accident, officials said Monday afternoon.

"There was no malicious intent. It was not a set fire," said Michael Thiemann, spokesman for the Metro West Fire Protection District. "It was accidental, and apparently started in the lounge area."

This was a nice upscale restaurant in the burbs of St. Louis.

Sounds like this lady (the owner) got "lucky" by having a fire...the smoking ban was about to shut her down.

So much for smoking bans increasing business.

Earlier this year, Barth said she might be forced to close the restaurant due to lost business because of Ballwin's anti-smoking ordinance that took effect Jan. 1. Barth said sales dropped 30 percent from January to April compared with the same period of 2005.

Barth said the lost business forced her to cut back on live music and to change the menu, and she worried over what would happen when she would have to ask smokers to go outside in winter weather.

Where'd you get that pic? That's priceless. I hope no one was hurt in that fire, but when the normal crew shows up, they'll compl;ain that an eeeevvvviiiill smoker just HAD to be in there smoiking around their highly explosive oxygen tank.

Well, maybe the lady in this thread is better off.
I'd rather see my place burn, than see the antis kill it slow with their "level playing field".
