You may remember seeing the name "Saul Zaentz" in the opening credits of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies. His name is also listed on the credits for the Ralph Bakshi animated version from 1978. So who is Saul Zaentz, anyway? He's the producer who, in 1976, bought the rights to Tolkien's works and, logically, started up a company called Tolkien Enterprises. So what that basically means is that New Line "leased" the LOTR rights from Zaentz ... and it looks like those rights will be reverting back to the guy some time next year.
And apparently Saul Zaentz really wants Peter Jackson to direct the Hobbit movie. Matter of fact, Showbiz Data is carrying a quote from Mr. Z that states the following: "It will definitely be shot by Peter Jackson."

Now, this rumored "prequel" thing is freaking me out...
i thought this was a defniite. they were supposed to be making two movies, one with the origional story, the other with other stuff.
in either event, a lot of ths hobit was shown in LOTR; bilbo finding the ring for example, but there ARE a whole lotta scenes i'd love to see.

They'll intercut scenes from the Rankin Bass animated version, the one with the voice of John Huston as Gandalf.

My brain tends to merge Rankin and Bass and the Bakshi horror into one.
Which is the one where the Balrog wears giant bunny slippers? And Gandalf keeps milking the giant cow?

The Bakshi is the one with the fuzzy-slippered, butterfly-winged, lion-headed Balrog... and Gandalf milking the giant cow.

Way to freak out the poor siblings on the first night of Entmoot...
I do believe it was... sheesh, was that the first night? I'd forgotten.
Sigh. Entmoot. While I for obvious reasons have Shootmoot as my favorite Hobbity gathering, that was an incredible amount of fun. I just wish we could do something like that again.
Hey...we offered to watch the movies at Wedding Moot II. But noooooo...y'all that places to go...
And the Rankin-Bass had the awful songs and the yodeling singer. And the frog-Gollum.
First night...remember we took the group picture then, as not everyone was staying the full time? And we all spontaneously started singing "Where there's a whip"...
Good times, good times.
But the Boromir thing kinda made them nervous. Especially as it was such a big production with lots of argument on both sides of the issue. I think they wondered what kinda sick freaks these people were. ;-)

I remember the singing and the pictures though I would have sworn we did that Saturday night before the theater trip. I still get a kick out of us northerners going swimming and the down-southers freaking out because it was too cold.
The remarkable thing about "where there's a whip", is that you can sing it along with the Howard Shore score at the part where the Orcs are marching out of Minus Morgul and Frodo&co are watching from the 'stair'. I think Shore wrote that piece with the whip chorus in mind :)
We did sing it, in the theater at Entmoot, if I recall.... :~)
I thought Sam was only there the first night, though.
But my memory is often faulty, so you could well be right. It was still pretty early days, in any case. And we did watch Rankin and Bass and Bakshi right off - think we had those playing when the WA contingent showed up.
You know, since none of us can really remember, we'll just have to do it again...

Sam came Saturday! He and Jeanne brought the pizzas at lunchtime. I don't remember if he was at the theater though.

Well, since I have to go to ~town~ for a meeting anyway, I'll see if it's in the bargain bin at Fred Meyer.

Hmmm... a chat view would be fun... i haven't seen that monstrosity since Entmoot. I wonder if the Family Video has it?
