Well, with that grand funkle, I suppose I should try going back to bed.

Good Morning All. Snowy landscape and mid 20's and we had a visitor at breakfast..LSA spotted a hawk in the neighbors tree and we watched it swoop down to perch on the fence. In a flash our formerly backyard full of birds (cardinals, mourning doves, sparrows, nuthatches) and a couple squirrels all made themselves quite scarce. The hawk made a pass at the yew bush (full of sparrows)and perched on the 4X4 fence post by the wood rack. By the time I got the batteries in the camera, the hawk departed. What kind you ask? Red-shouldered hawk - Buteo lineatus.

It's like a flat cornbread.

Well, good luck to him, or the birds, depends on who you're rooting for :~) I've seen a hawk sweep little birds off our feeder twice.

Our kittens have a mouse they've been tossing about the yard. It's a hard world, for the little things.

True, it's the age old mystery of predator and prey...

Well, the local starling and sparrow population could be thinned a bit. We'd appreciate ol Buteo leaving the doves, cardinals and downy woodpeckers alone.

We've had a couple birds picked off the feeder in the front yard but none in the back so far as we can ascertain.

I've got some squirrels running around here if your hawk is still hungry...

Apparently the 'all clear' was sounded. The doves, downy woodpecker, sparrows and purple finches are back. Not a feeding perch vacant at this point in time.

I've seen some squirrels about. The chipmunk is staying under cover....probably in my garage.

Does Gypsygirl have frosty paws this morning?

heh, yup, she got snowballs between the pads in her paws; she didn't get her walk, toooo icy. She can romp in the backyard to her hearts content (as long as one of us is out there with her).

I think it's that too, a church I used to go to used that too. It was a flat bread, but thick. A bit like shortbread but not quite.
