LISBON (AFP) - Oscar-winning US actress Gwyneth Paltrow feels dinner talk is far more interesting in her adopted homeland Britain than back in her native country.
"I love the English lifestyle, it's not as capitalistic as America. People don't talk about work and money, they talk about interesting things at dinner," she told "NS", the weekend magazine supplement of daily Portuguese newspaper Diario de Noticias on Saturday.
"I like living here because I don't fit into the bad side of American psychology. The British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans," the 34-year-old added.
Paltrow, who won a best actress Oscar for 1998's "Shakespeare in Love," lives in London with British band Coldplay's frontman Chris Martin whom she wed in 2003.
She said having US pop star Madonna, 48, who married British film director Guy Ritchie six years ago, nearby was another advantage to living in London.
"She's like an older sister. Everything I have gone through, she went through ten times worse and ten times longer. She gives me good advice about how to say no and take care of myself," said Paltrow.
Of course, Madonna recommended to her to have her baby in the States because the health care system in England sucks.
to Miss Paltrow: Oh bugger off you Brit wannabee!
So she admits her Hollywood crowd is stupid?
LOL, she surely has never dined with any normal Americans.
Well then Gwyneth you should become a citizen of GB, and pay their taxes.
"The British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans,"
What an utterly idiotic thing to say.
TC
Fine. I'm glad she's happy. With a little luck she will renounce her citizenship and we'll have one less lib.
Maybe American "table talk" is about things we can have an effect on, rather than bitching about things we can't do jack about.
IOW, don't let the door hit you on the way out, Gwyneth.
The bloody b**ch!
The problem isn't with America, but with the particular (Hollywood) circles within which Paltrow traveled in America.
There must be a Bull S. somewhere in her BS.
She's a vacuous, skinny, flat-chested air-head...nothing in there, folks! Let's move along and find someone worth gossiping about....
Then why don't you give up every American dollar you made huh?
Or is that you just like to take advantage of us capitalist pigs?
DA!
LOL! Millionaire actors mocking capitalism. Might as well read an article about what Lindsay Lohan thinks about the United States, that's how much I care about the overrated Gwyneth Paltrow. Her mother has more class in her pinky than Gwyneth has in her entire body.
She's a memeber of the leisure class. One musn't take her too seriously.
I wish that all the Hollywood empty-headed, self-righteous goons would all move to England. And that includes their media who thinks that we are interested in what they have to say. UGH!

They are just so much more sophisticated than we are....
What a graceless (very bad word). Dinner talk? Nice loyalty to her native country, which made her rich and famous. I'm sorry, but she's just not that attractive and in different circumstances, with different parents, would be a bit player not a movie star. She wins the Dixie Chicks Patriot Award of the Week.
I considered the source and their company, thought about it for five seconds and then laughed.
Then become an English subject instead of a sovereign American citizen.
But she didn't hestitate at all to participate in capitalism and enjoy its benefits. What a hypocrite.
If you're getting "advice" from Madonna, then you're on the highway to oblivion.
Memo to Gwyneth: Get the hell out!
If they are so intelligent, why is their dentistry third world?
With talk like, this I suspect she's getting ready to run for president as a Democrat.
Miss Paltrow decries America's capitalist system, but hypocritically runs back to the States to have her baby. If you believe in British style socialism, shallow Gwyn, why didn't you use their "vaunted socialist health care system?"
The Brits are too kindly to nits like Paltrow, she obviously failed Manners 101........

With a mentor like Madonna, what else can we expect. Sad little rich desperate women searching for meaning in their materialism and self-centeredness must insult others to maintain their sense of superiority.
And Ms. Paltrow are going to change your citizenship so you can pay the sky high taxes that Brits pay? Or do you like the lower taxrates of uneducated America?
What does the life-style of upper-crust Britain, or for that matter, upper-crust America, have to do with capitalism?
Captains of industry do not, for the most part, dine with sophisticates and artistic intellectuals except at some function, where they normally end up segregated to separate parts of the room, and maintain separate conversations. The Fabian socialists, with whom Gwyneth Paltrow would seem to be naturally attracted, are not restricted to the British Isles, by any means.
She is correct in saying that talking about money - the accumulation or the lack thereof - is a taboo in British society.
"The British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans,"
How would she know? She isn't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer. And then there's her friends ....
Well, I was trying to take an intelligent, enlightened look at what she was saying up to that point...
I think she as a very good point.
I imagine sitting down to dinner in Hollywood is just as she describes... very shallow, money-centric, idolatry.
And let it be noted that Paltrow never experienced real life. She was born in the Hollywood set.
What an utterly idiotic thing to say.
Consider that Ms. Paltrow may well be referring to her Hollywood buddies. In which case, it wouldn't be idiotic, it would be true.
Perhaps Ms. Paltrow would be happier if those filthy, ragged and bloodied rebels had lost to Lord Cornwallis.
Note to Gwynethhhhhhhhh - honey hang out where you are and please keep Madonna and all of the other wannabe snobs with you.
I can say proudly, I have not watched, nor payed for a Hollywood movie going on about ten years now.
Never again will these jerks see my money.
This is simply another case of an American airhead who is easily fascinated by people with an accent different than her own.
So what is it, that the media feels compelled to ooh and aah over?
What sophisticated conversation could a Hollywood actress possibly have? What a moron. But, I guess those who purchase tickets to her films are sophisticated, at least during the 90 minutes she's on screen. And, Madonna? She's pure trash. Can you just imagine the "sophisticated" dinner conversations between those two? Arrggghh! I'd rather eat nails or drink very heavily.
"The British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans,"
Gwyneth, you can just Edith me.
Isn't that what Cornwallis said
Paltrow is Hollywood royalty, as they say. It was all handed to her on silver platter. Her father was an A-list TV writer/producer, her mother a highly regarded stage and screen actress. Struggle, the need to make make money, putting food on the table, these are foreign concepts to her. Her noblesse oblige attitude reminds of the scene in The Aviator, when Howard Hughes dines with Katherine Hepburn's family. Hughes is talking about his projects, and the money involved, and Mrs. Hepburn blanches.
" We don't care about money here.
Well, that's because you have it.
Would you repeat that?
You don't care about money because you've always had it."
"With talk like, this I suspect she's getting ready to run for president as a Democrat."
The hate America DUngheap crowd must be enjoying this, given that they hate America more than shallow Gwyneth.
In sum, I wouldn't give much credence to anyone who would name their child, Apple.
Thanks for the link -- that is an AMAZING detail! Yeah, Gwyneth loves the UK but doesn't actually want to live like a Brit if she has the wherewithal to hop on a plane and crash in L.A. until she has her children. If only she could fly from L.A. to London every night while she's expecting so she could have some intelligent conversation at din-din time.
European-centric, racist twit.
How do you like American money???
