Art Bell and his Hatred for Christianity...
Coast to Coast AM | 12/04/06 | Mobile Vulgus

Posted on 12/04/2006 1:26:20 AM PST by Mobile Vulgus

Tonight Art Bell was talking to Dr. Sean Carroll,Senior Research Associate in Physics at Caltech, and he stuck to his normal form in his hatred for Christianity.

In the last hour of the show he asked his guest if he thought that North America's lack of funding for research into deep theoretical ideas and experimentation (like particle accelerators) was because the answers that would come to light would present "alternate answers to God" and Christians couldn't handle that.

So, according to Bell, Christians in the USA are so stupid that they refuse to fund science because it will challenge their ideas of Jesus and God.

This hatred of Christianity of his has blinded him to the simple fact that there would BE no advances in science if it weren't for Christians in both America and Europe. Nearly ALL the great advances are a result of western, Christian societies.

But,"logic" and "thought" is NOT something that can easily come to the host of a show that claims bigfoot is roaming the countryside and aliens are hovering above his studio every night!

Besides, what do you want from a guy that hated his own country so much he had to move to Southeast Asia?? He is a perfect example of a westerner who loathes his own.

Art has become increasingly bitter with time. I seem to recall that his son was molested by a pedophile homo, not sure I ever heard the details, but Art is not the same man I listened to years ago. I seldom turn the radio on these days, or the TV, for that matter.

Well, aside from him being a bitter ex-pat, a religion hater, a rouser of crack pots, and a purveyor of conspiracy foolishness?

Eh, I could take 'im er leave 'im!

Bell's comment seemed ill chosen, yet the answer that he elicited about the Big Bang can be seen as friendly to Christian belief. Also, Bell often had the late Father Malachi Martin on to talk about exorcism, and many of his other guests talk about spiritual subjects.

As for Bell himself, he is agnostic yet believes in life after death. I gather that his new bride is ardently Catholic. Having lived for many years in Asia while in the military and with a late wife who was a Filipina-American, Bell should not be too much faulted for his current residence and marital choice.

Particle accelerators already exist, and how could they suggest the nonexistence of God?

Many freepers kindly helped to get a FRhomepage organized on Internet Explorer. It should look organized, now.

Exactly, God has endowed man with an ability to mature spiritually as well as scientifically. We are made in his image and it is God's desire that we grow and excel in all that we do. God is not threatened by our ability to expand our knowledge and to investigate His creation. The more we learn and create the more we realize just how unbelievably magnificent is His creation and how worthy He is of our praise and worship. Explore away!

Agreed with you on the move overseas. When he was on more often he frequently mentioned how he almost "went native" when serving in the Far East during his Air Force time.

I disagree with what he says on the air a lot, but I think he also tends to side with whomever he's interviewing and I think, given his audience and guests, that's a good idea. Logic and facts ain't their strong suits.

Hehe, Art's too stupid 'hate God', he's more apathetic than anti-American. And his dearly departed wife was a witch so, one can see why folks might think he hates God, but I don't think he does really.

He's just a guy with a great set of pipes and a bit of a dim bulb. Irksome? indeed, but oddly fascinating, like a train wreck. -Better than a sleeping pill.

You're on the right track. Somehow religion and politics have been conflated (contra confused) and conservatism becomes a mere appendage of evangelic Christianity, rather than its peer. The confusion of commercialism-capitalism with conservative values is involved in the loss of the Super conducting Super Collider to the Space Transport System shuttles.

Fermilab is ensconced in liberal land and Texas gets a 16-lane super-speedway to somewhere else.

Either we are equal or we are not. Good people ought to be armed where they will, with wits and guns. Merry Christmas

How does that translate into hate? Do you have more concrete examples or is this your opinion?

Within weeks of his beloved wife's sudden death he was out of the country and remarried to a very young lady.

I suspect Mr. Bell is hoping against hope that there is no G-d.

The mention of Malachi Martin throws up red flags to me. A man who is loved by breakaway Catholics includings edevacantists and also vehement anti-Catholics makes me nervous.

I do not think that too brief a period of mourning before remarriage merits damnation. I heard Bell's first show after his wife's death, and he was deeply and profoundly grief stricken. His remarriage was sudden and to someone that he did not know before, so it was not a case of having a woman on the side ready as a replacement.

Although a colorful maverick writing on controversial subjects, Malachi Martin remained a faithful Catholic and accredited priest to the end. A wide audience for an author is not a discredit if the works themselves are sound.

She emailed Bell condolences at the initiative of one of his dead wife's family, and from there romance blossomed, apparently with Bell's former in law helping script the new wife's replies. In spite of having a popular show that is a cultural phenomenon, Bell, like Limbaugh, is a stay at home type and was was more a man snared than a pursuer.

The audience varies greatly, but some of them sure are credulous -- and many of the guests are simply entertaining kooks. Rarely explained is that the show is programmed as a forum in which many foolish ideas short of deliberate fraud are presented as plausible. Bell (and Noory) are not as much believers as they may seem. One time frequent guest and friend Richard Hoagland pressed Bell to express his personal opinion as to pictures supposedly proving Hoagland's Mars theories. Bell replied with a chuckle: "Richard, they all just look like rocks to me."

Art Bell knows that. He is not blind to that. Everybody knows that most leading scientists have been intensely Christian (and Jewish) all along from the beginning of modern science and most still are.

Not agreeing or accepting a concept does not mean that you hate it. Do you hate someone or thing, like Art Bell, or evelution just because you see things differently? What a boring world this would be if everyone was required to believe the same thing, sorta like what muslims do.Muslims hate Chistianity, I do not see Art as a muslim. By the same token, I don't see things quite the same way as he does either, but I don't hate him.

Apart from a vague belief in spiritualism, Bell is less a new ager than he may seem to be. His parents were Marine Corps drill instructors, and he is former Air Force. He often has hard science shows, and he has spoken well of Rush Limbaugh. But most of all, Bell is a radio host who found an audience wanting to hear something new in the way of information and entertainment.
