PORTLAND, Ore. - A man who ended up at the hospital with an arrow in his head underwent surgery on Friday and is in critical condition.
The victim told those at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) that his name is Kevin Evans, but KATU News discovered he has been living at a Gresham motel under a different last name. The circumstances of how he ended up with an arrow in his head are still unclear, but police are hoping to talk with him further once he is able to speak to them.
Police said Evans did not try to pull the arrow out himself, which doctors say increases his chances of surviving.
"The brain is a pretty interesting structure," said Dr. Johnny Delashaw, a Neurosurgeon at OHSU. "Sometimes when it gets injured, it never recovers. Sometimes, the brain can make a remarkable recovery."
Evans was shot near one of his eyes, but how bad was he hurt? That depends on whether the arrow had a dull practice tip or a razor tip for hunting.
"And those are made for one specific reason - to kill large game," said Joe Mallicot, who sells bows at Archery World.
Mallicot added that the incident puts a bad light on a sport that many enjoy.
"Doing something like that, it kind of hurts the sporting reputation of it and hunters that put food on the table for their family and just enjoy their recreation, it's not fair to them that one person could give it (the sport) so much negative publicity," he said.

That's hysterical and reminds me of another story about a man who had terrible headaches and had to have surgery performed to relieve them.
But I digress.
