It was the end of Monday night's BCS Championship party and we still weren't having Fun Bunch yet.
Oh, you remember the Fun Bunch, a four-pack of Ohio State Buckeyes that colluded to put 42 points on Michigan and at least 35 on nine of their 12 ruthlessly-whacked opponents.
Well, after weeks of mind-numbing analysis, we now know the Fun Bunch was no match for the Run Bunch. Yeah, the Run Bunch checks in as a collection of speed freaks from Florida coached by Urban Meyer and, at 41-14, better on title night than the long-running favorite.

Go Gators!!!
The SEC is THE premier conference and there is no getting around it......as much as some want to.
If the game were really for the "national championship", shouldn't Boise State have played?????? The BCS is a joke.
After last night, I think a playoff system should be considered.
Is it possible that some of the SEC fans are even MORE annoying than the PAC 10 fans of the last 2 years?
The Gators were playing Texas Tech's spread pass-based offense. They didn't use the long bomb, but who needs to when you can make 13-yarders consistently. I hope the writers will stop looking down their noses at Leach's "system", now that we are seeing it crop up in other places.
LOL. They could have played, but I'm afraid they would have lost by 60 pts.
UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG-LEE!!!!
Bowling Green could have beat Ohio last night. ANY Bowling Green!!!
A playoff system is definitely needed. I'd bet a month's pay that Boise State would have gotten smacked around in the second round.
Based on the last seven weeks of the season I'd guess Florida vs. LSU for the national championship.
Experts know NOTHING!
Yeah, but if LSU won, everybody would have insisted that they 'share' the National Championship with Florida State.
LOL, true enough.
The OSU defense played very conservative all night. No pressure on the Florida QBs at all, usually rushing only 3 or 4 linemen. Very surprised by that scheme.
O-line was manhandled by the Florida defensive front. Troy Smith never had a chance. I also thought the Buckeyes gave up too soon on the running game. The series in the 2nd quarter where they threw three straight passes and went three and out was a surprise, because the Buckeyes had just scored on the Gators with the running game.
Tressel was outcoached from start to finish. The injury to Ginn hurt the offense more than I would have expected it to. Huge disappointment. Now, winter really begins.
Take that statement, frame it, hang it on your wall, use it again next year, and the next, and the next, and the next..................
I'm normally a Big 10 fan, but I'm sick of all the Ohio State hype. This game does prove the superiority of the SEC and also shuts up all those people who clamored for a repeat of OSU vs. Michigan in the BCS Championship. To have left Florida out of it would have been a crime.
Looking on the bright side, the OSU Band rocks. At least the band appeared juiced to be there.
I think Boise State would've made a more entertaining game of it.
I have to agree with you. After a month of hearing that the Gators should not have been playing for the title (mainly from UM fans who are now quiet) it appears that maybe it was Ohio State that should not have been playing for the title. I am not even sure Ohio would have beaten LSU, Arkansas or Auburn.
Boise State went undefeated and looked good, but when you need multiple trick plays to win it is not a convincing win. I'm very happy the Gators won the title, but acknowledge that it is mostly a beauty pageant when you are trying to compare teams that don't play head-to-head.
I suggest they go back to the basics of bowl games and to heck with the "National Championship". It is a game, for Heaven's sake! This is about broadcast revenues and money.
It may be some form of "Buckeye blasphemy" for me to say this, but I agree! The SEC is the first-class league of college football. I've always thought so.
Our Big Ten/11 is grossly overrated, as this season's bowl games demonstrated.
I remember that not so long ago all the important bowl games were played on New Year's day. Why stretch them out all the way to January 8th?
Easy answer..."MONEY"!
I too miss the days of the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Cotton Bowl, etc. counting for something in the conferences and not having sponsored names. Unfortunately, you had the polls crowning mythical champions. The BCS was done as a compromise to the polls but it doesn't work. I would prefer to see the bowls again count for conference champions who then play in a tournament for a true national title. I know not to expect that to happen.
Actually, the Buckeyes looked like the Cleveland Browns last nite.
I think the month layoff killed their emotion, and they were not fired up for the contest. That's why underdogs did so well this year in Bowl Games: they have everything to gain with a win, and nothing to lose.
I believe the BCS is BS, and a playoff system needs to be implemented if the National Championship is to mean anything.
The Ohio State team did not show up at the game last nite, and Florida played their best game in 3 years.
Well, they have much more to be proud of.
My BCS NC formula - Get the SEC Champion to play any "champion" from one of the second-rung conferences, i.e., Big 10, Big 12, PAC 10, WAC, etc.
It's hard to say how the Ohio State team would have played offense if they hadn't lost their fastest wide receiver at the start of the game. Every florida defensive player got to step down one player for their coverages, which made it hard to find open receiveres.
That doesn't explain the defense -- of course, the Ohio State defense gave up a lot of points to Michigan as well, and Florida does have a good offensive team.
It's a shame there was a serious injury to a top-tiered player. The game might have been interesting otherwise.
The Big 10 definitely need a conference championship game. Not doubt the long break hurt Ohio State.
There's still plenty of OSU hype out there. Both the AP and Coaches polls have them at #2.
Sorry, Buckeye nation... OSU would be the 4th best team in the SEC.
The OSU Band was definitely impressive. Love that cursive Ohio spelling.
Although I enjoyed the BS/OU game greatly, the trickery necessary to barely beat a lower-rated team would not work again for Boise State, especially against a powerhouse like Florida. Boise State played their hand and have a good rating; enjoy it!
You're right...the SEC has Miss. State and Vandy. However, which other conference has 4-6 potential NC teams in nay given year?
All other conferences have 1 or 2 good teams, at most. And no, the WAC, Big 12, and PAC 10 (except USC) don't count as authentic conferences.
Yes, the SEC crowd IS going to be annoying as the Pac 10 crowd was the past three years. The SEC is good. The big ten is good. Lots of good teams. Two of the middle of the road big ten teams beat SEC teams. Several big ten lost bowls. This one was just on a bigger stage.
"I remember that not so long ago all the important bowl games were played on New Year's day"
I remember when there was only one bowl game, the Rose Bowl.
Since everyone is trying to dip into the pot of gold maybe we need one more.
Let the two worst teams in the country play and call it the Toilet Bowl.
FReeper Lunatic Fringe from another thread and it bears repeating here:
""They(Boise) didn't beat Auburn, they didn't beat Arkansas, they didn't beat USC, and they didn't beat OSU.
Who DID they beat? Hawaii. Idaho. Fresno State. Louisiana Tech. Nevada.
Who did Florida beat?
Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida State, LSU, South Carolina... and of course, Ohio State.
Boise State is no champion.""
The "Dotting of the i" is a great tradition.
Final AP poll results (#1s in the past):
2006 Florida
2005 Texas
2004 USC
2003 USC
2002 Ohio State
2001 Miami
2000 Oklahoma
1999 Florida State
1998 Tenessee
1997 Michigan
1996 Florida
1995 Nebraska
1994 Nebraska
1993 Florida State
1992 Alabama
1991 Miami
1990 Colorado
1989 Miami
1988 Notre Dame
1987 Miami
1986 Penn State
1985 Oklahoma
1984 BYU
1983 Miami
1982 Penn State
1981 Clemson
1980 Georgia
Big 8/XII had 6, SEC had 5, Miami Hurricanes had 5.
Last year it was Big XII fans. The year before, Pac 10. This year it's SEC fans. Next year it will be someone else who thinks their conference is the best. Yawn. SSDD.
A well-deserved win by an excellently prepared team. As for the BCS, it's just another money-making scheme.
You forgot LSU and Auburn. LSU won an NC in 2003; USC did not. Auburn was cheated out by the BCS that wanted a Little 12 team to play in the NC game.
In other words, SEC teams have won/lead the field in 3 out of the last 4 years.
When an SEC team is cheated out of an NC game (as teams from the South usually are), the SEC Champion is by default the national champion.
I have always felt the same way, and I'm glad there are some here who agree. We need to get rid of the BCS and restore the tradition and pageantry of the bowl games.
Just for arguments sake (and I felt all year that the SEC was a deep conference, so I am not claiming otherwise), what are the four to six teams in the SEC with national championship caliber?
After his Trojans were crushed by Notre Dame in 1966, USC coach John McKsy remarked, "forget it. After all, there are seven hundred million Chinese who don't even know the game was played."
The Big East went 5-0 in bowl games. Clearly the best record of any conference.
The Big East was definitely impressive.
HAHAHAHAHA!!!
Yea, Ohio States first TD shouldn't have counted, it was holding! LOL
