Not being a dog owner:

What do you do in such a case?

Said the pitbull upon exiting the vet's office, "I thought I won the fight."

Okay... now I got a slight grip...

You know... what I can see here is if a pit pull attacks you, you WILL NOT be able to hurt it into backing off. It's either kill the dog or die yourself.

Someone else posted "You should see the other guy". I'll bet the dog finally killed the porcupine but he must have had to go after it 10 or 20 times by the time he was able to get him.

Did the dog survive for very long after that? I would think between the swelling/inflammation, potential infections and probable blindness that this dog is retired from hunting!

Poor little guy!

OOO-UUU-CCC-HHHH !!!! One sore dog that has learned his lesson.

I don't think so. The porcupine must have kept unloading on the dog until it was so full of quills it couldn't attack anymore. In other words the pit bull didn't stop because of pain.

I hope the porkie is OK. I read that the quills have to be cut in half before they can be removed. Supposedly they're hollow and filled with liquid. When the liquid is released, they shrink, and can be removed with less damage to the dog.

First off ... this isn't a pit bull but a white bull terrier. Secondly, this made the rounds at FR about a year ago ... maybe longer.

Yes, the bull terrier did survive the ordeal ... this story goes back at least a year and ran on FR at the time.

Thus one of the things that makes this and a handful of other breeds inherently more dangerous - They attack someone or something they are not suppose to - they are not easily dissuaded from the attack - and often don't stop until death.

I went out to eat with the wife in downtown Minneapolis a while ago and the guy that served us looked a lot like that.

They got this sayin here in Ak, not supposed to kill porkies cause some starvin soul could always catch one on the ground to eat.

I shoot everyone of them I see around the house, cause I have had them come right in my doglot and tangle with sled dogs, same outcome, me pullin quills with needlenose from up their nose and throat.

Now this is what your supposed to do with porcupines, barbecue them. Indians just luv them but they taste pretty foul & gamey to me. Indians gut (belly has fur on) and grandma burns quills off over fire as she rubs with stick. They like them kinda rare or raw I'd call it. Indians will take porcupine over white man's pizza everytime. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Heh. I'd submit though, that this dog *didn't* learn the lesson. The lesson was in the first few quills. And the next few, and the next few...

If a Pit Bull would endure this to kill a porcupine, you're little ole pepper-spray or walking stick wouldn't be a deterrent either.
