International violent death statistics are interesting.
Actually, those tables are VERY interesting. Violence is a cultural problem!
Agreed! But surely then the argument revolves around whether you believe that the extra security obtained when firearms are so easily obtainable is worth 32,000 (or whatever) extra deaths per year. You believe it does, I personally think that is too high a price. We shall have to agree to disagree on that one.
I am not asking you to be my "personal research center", nor can I recall asking you to be so.
No I dont believe it is an invalid argument. The UK has not "stripped" its citizens of arms. They've never really had them. And, incidentally, nor do most of them want firearms. This is a cultural thing.
To say home intrusions are up 45% means nothing. Up 45% from what? Sword attacks? Well of course...our madmen cant get hold of assault rifles and rampage through schools spreading death and destruction.
I concur some deaths are warranted. Im not arguing that.
LOL. Everything you wrote in this post I could quite easily apply to you! (I wont though, that is not the way to conduct rational argument).
I am not brainwashed. I am perfectly prepared to debate this issue and to consider other viewpoints. In point of fact, since exchanging these posts with you I have gained a very great understanding into the US mindset. I understand more where you are coming from. You must understand, this gun culture thing is completely alien to me. Most Brits find the American preoccupation with firearms to be totally bizarre.
This goes on and on. The trick is, of course, getting you to read them. You've already made up your mind.
Please retract this statement. It is thoroughly insulting, totally assumptive of my character on your part, and beneath you as the champion of democratic debate you obviously are.
No doubt you are right. Actually, I find you to be va ery reasonable sort. You've got me on a topic that I defend to the death if need be.
If you ever find yourself in the Atlanta vicinity, be sure to raise me by Freepmail. I'd really enjoy meeting you personnally. You ain't bad for a Cannook.
Actually, Im a Brit.
I'll take you up on the offer, although I have no idea when next I will be in the USA. I've actually been to Atlanta. Long time ago.
My favorite! The owner of the small company for which I work is a Brit. Best working situation I've ever had.
He is gun shy as well, but he did finally agree to go along with us next time we go shooting. I was in the Army, the other guy is a Marine. Between the two of us, Geoff gets plenty of Second Amendment propaganda.
Do drop us a line if you come through again.
