Tiger kills girl at Chinese zoo

A six-year-old girl has been killed by a tiger at a zoo in Kunming in south-western China's Yunnan province.

The girl was posing for photographs with the tiger when it was startled by camera flashes and pulled the girl's head into its mouth, state media said.

Staff beat the tiger until it released the girl, but she had suffered a crushed skull and died in hospital.

The zoo has stopped allowing visitors to pose with its tigers for a charge of $2 (£1), Xinhua news agency said.

The girl was identified as Rui Xin. Her mother was bitten on the arm while trying to rescue her.

A local newspaper said the zoo had been charging visitors for the opportunity to pose with the tiger since May 2005.

And of course, they will blame the tiger. This is the mother's fault. Stupid, stupid thing to do.

Sadly we had to take our Squeekums on that "trip to the vet" yesterday. She was around 19-years old and a bitch to the end.
Now our two other juvenile cats are wandering around causing a ruckus in her absence.

I'm simply fascinated by gorillas and chimps whose interactions with each other enthrall me.

So then, you're a voyeur. :-)

Zoos, theme parks, etc. are VERY popular in the PRC right now. In fact there is an Aircraft Carrier theme park, either in service or under construction (no, its not the Sov, er, Russian CVN).

Good grief! Who gets to untie the tiger?

I don't think they ever untie them. The conditions at that zoo are outrageous!

My Kittie cats strip a gear every day or so and what was a purring kitten is a deadly attack machine. If they weighed 200 pounds I'd be dead instead of just unattaching their various teeth and claws from my arm.

There's a wonderful episode ("The Hidden Tiger" ca 1967) of the vintage TV show, "The Avengers," in which kitties are given little medallions that have some, tiny electronic circuitry inside that can receive some kind of brain waves that turn normal house cats into fearless and deadly tigers.

You guys! Stop making me giggle -- I work in a respectable joint -- wait -- what am I saying -- I work in a law firm.

Let me rephrase that (deja vu all over again), the study of nature and God's wild creatures is um...um...(I'll think of something innocuous -- give me a moment) is extremely edifying, yeah, that's it, edifying.

We don't seem to learn at all.

Who's "we"? You don't see my pasty white butt in any tiger cages!

Still, you can't argue with that price.

Who's "we"?

We are all and all is we. Except for "them." They are something else.

My 5 year old thought this was a dumb idea.

She did want to know though, after the tiger ate the kid did they still get to keep the picture ?

This is the zoo and how they take the pictures, this is pure insanity, let's play Russian Roulette with the tiger.

Can we set up some kind of petting zoo like this for liberals?

Jackie Vernon:

Click-click: "Here's my kid with the tiger."

Click-click: "Here's my kid without a head with the tiger."

Course you'd have to remember Jackie Vernon to get that.
