It was not immediately clear whether the suspect survived the gunbattle, or whether it was one or two suspects in the car.

DALLAS -- A man fatally shot a Dallas police officer Friday, sparking a standoff that ended with the suspect's capture, NBC 5 reported.
The shooting happened in the 4100 block of Bernal Drive near Loop 12 in Dallas.
NBC 5 reported that the suspect, who was also shot, was armed with a rifle and slumped down inside a car that Chopper 5 video showed was riddled with bullets.
Dozens of officers with guns drawn had surrounded the vehicle before SWAT officers removed him from the car at about 7 p.m.

The officer was pronounced dead at Parkland Hospital, Sgt. Gil Cerda said.
We are providing counseling for the officers here, he said. Its just a very hard time for us.
Cerda said the incident began when officers had attempted to stop a vehicle as part of a murder investigation.
Cerda said the driver fled, forcing police to chase him.
When the driver stopped on Bernal Drive, police exchanged gunfire with the suspect and the officer was hit, Cerda said.
Cerda did not release the officer's identity.
Rest in Peace
Prayers for the deceased and his family, and May Guardian Angels protect everyone in uniform.
I hope they catch the scum that killed him.
God bless cops.
Prayers for the officer's family, friends and co-workers. :*(
Wonder if this will show up on "Dallas S.W.A.T."?
People just don't appreciate what these front line heroes go through for the rest of us! :*(
TXA-21 is reporting that the deceased officer's name is Mark Nix.
The scum didn't get away - Officer Nix and his partner, along with the officers in another car, thouroughly ventilated the perp's car and the perp. Unfortunately, the perp survived.
