Has anyone noticed that the Free Republic spellcheck function isn't recognizing some contractions as spelled correctly?
TOPICS: Focus Software
KEYWORDS: contractions; spellcheck
I don't understand this - "don't" and "I'm" are shown as spelled correctly, but many other contractions aren't. That shouldn't be. But I'm sure some FReepers couldn't care less, since they don't use spellcheck. Ain't that a shame?

All three of those show up as spelled incorrectly when I spell check them, for some reason. “I’m”, “don’t” and “can’t” work, probably because “I”, “don” and “can” are actual words.
I don’t remember this being an issue until the past month or so.

spellcheck dose not like spellcheck

spellcheck dose not like spellcheck
Probably because spell check is two words, not one. I misspelled spell check because spell check isn't available for original posts.
I really need the spell check function.

Someone somewhere perhaps did a study and found out a good portion of folks can’t remember where to put that do-dad thingy and so they are at this very moment, as we speak, attempting to make contractions obsolete worldwide. It’s for the children. They’ll have more time to learn more important global citizenship stuff.

Well, if it is for the children, I will not use contractions. It is a good thing that the Free Republic spell checker is not recognizing contractions as words if it is for the children. After all, it is for the children.

Ah, the recent change to add typographerâs marks has come back to haunt me. The spell check doesnât like the curly quotes. Hm. Iâll see what can be done about that.

Ouch, double-encoded UTF-8. I hate Unicode. :-(

I noticed it yesterday, then today it told me that Freeper wasn’t a word. I just ignored it.
