Where Are All The Men?
fox news | Freeplancer

Posted on 04/17/2007 7:39:36 AM PDT by freeplancer

First there was Salt Lake City, and now Virgian Tech. Trey Perkins, a 19 year old student who is now on fox News spewed his story about being in the same room as the gunman while he reloaded his weapons at least once. Did he get up and charge the gunman with reckless abandon to save his fellow students? NO

When the SLC shooting took place, the local news broadcast a cell video of the shooter discharging his weapons. While the owner of the cell phone stood there and filmed the shooter, who coincidently had his back to the camera, he did nothing. Cowards, bystanders, and wimps. I am ashamed and disgusted. Maybe it is my military training or having being in a war zone that makes me know I would take action or die trying.

I would not be jumping out of windows or filming a murderer in action, and I hope to God that whoever reads this would not either. Where are all the men?

Where are all the men?

They’re wringing their hands and waiting to see what Oprah has to say about this.

“Trey Perkins, a 19 year old”

Leave the kid alone. American society does not allow men any longer - it is against the rules to be a man.

That said, single out this young man is wrong.

Depens what they mean by reloaded. If he ejected the magazine and was stuffing new rounds into it then you have a point. If he ejected the magazine and inserted a new one then you have no point.

I can shoot a round from a gun and reload a new magazine and fire another round in about 1.2 seconds. Some people can do it under 1 second.

Stand by for some Freeper to come along and tell you how insensitive you are—but that was the question my husband and I pondered this morning. Apparently there was one hero, a professor who was a Holocaust survivor, who blocked a door to help his students get away. Young strapping lads, however, didn’t have that “Lets roll” quality.

The libs have fought hard to sissify American males. In some cases, it seems they have succeeded.

But let us not forget the brave men and women in Iraq. There are plenty of real men out there.

The Police Chiefs' Association recommends that citizens not take justice into their own hands.

They recommend that people always cooperate with criminals so they won't hurt you.

As my husband said, since you know his intent is to kill everyone, including you, you might as well try to hurt him in the process. You’re going to die anyway, so why not get your licks in.

Easy to say, but how many of us know what we’d really do in such a situation? I’d like to think that I would be willing to take the chance of getting killed myself to put a stop to a madman like this, but I don’t really know. I’ve never seen people shot around me and faced being shot myself. And it’s not like this was a war - most people were probably in shock, not having expected their class on rigid body dynamics to suddenly be interrupted by bullets flying, blood spilling, people crying, etc.

I admit though, you’d think maybe a few guys would get together, and with the increased courage that goes along with acting as a group, have jumped this guy and taken him down. But again, that’s easy to say from a thousand miles away sitting in front of a keyboard.

ps, there’s some kind of disconnect here - half or more of the posters on this board seem to think they would have done something if they were there. Is this board that unrepresentative of a sampling of average college students? Or is that maybe people aren’t as brave as they like to think they’d be?

He said there was no time to get over the obstacles, ie. the desks thrown down as a barricade. It sure is easy to judge sitting in your comfortable chair typing on a computer. What a leap of logic you make. You hardly have a complete picture, yet you casually talk about foolhardy action. You would have made a great remf general in World War I. The RE in remf stands for rear echelon.

Where are all the men in America? I saw them in the police officers yesterday. I see them going to Iraq and Afghanistan. We still exist no matter what you nattering nabobs of negativism keep spouting.

LOL - good sarcasm - the cops were basically once again a clean up crew. It’s up to the individual to stop a crime against them or their fellow man. Or they can cower and get killed.

It’s said that during life threatening situations, animals will either fight or flee (fight or flight reflex)

I think are two other reflexes: freeze or go into auto-pilot mode (i.e. military or police training)

These students couldn’t flee, they couldn’t fight (due to the overwhelming advantage of the armed gunman) and they had to auto-pilot mode to fall into, therefore, they froze like deer.

Exactly the question I asked myself. I personally do not believe I could just stand by and watch someone shooting and killing other people. If by some chance I survived by hiding and cowering I could not live with that guilt.

This old overweight guy would have tried to do something.

This is just one result of the feminization (i.e., wimpification) of boys all throughout school. Boys are not allowed to fight, are not allowed to play rough, are not allowed to be rambunctious, and basically are not allowed to do anything that boys by nature do.

The result is a classroom full of young adults who allow themselves to be lined up against a wall and shot one after the other. After the first few shots, don’t you think the rest, at least the men, would charge the shooter? That instinct, though, has been indoctrinated out of most college bound males by the time they are adults. (There is the other end of the spectrum, where esp. inner city schools have no control over the kids, but those kids don’t end up in college.)

The resulting submissive attitude is no accident: It’s the sheeple that the wannabe rulers on the left not only want, but need. And the resulting thugs on the other side are also needed to keep the sheeple scared and in line.

PS It’s not right to single out that one 19 year old. He certainly wasn’t the only one who had a chance to do something.

“Is this board that unrepresentative of a sampling of average college students? Or is that maybe people aren’t as brave as they like to think they’d be?”

Yes, and Yes.

If that is your mindset, then I would suppose in the given situation, you are much more likely to act.
I’d also grant that a fair percentage of those who say they’d act in this kind of situation, would do nothing but soil their pants.

I'm hearing this excuse a lot and sorry but it's weak. How about telling yourself beforehand what you would do if and when you get in a situation? Having a basic attitude of not taking any s**t and always having a prepared mentality does effect instinct. Weren't we supposed to always be alert now post-9/11? I suppose that went away by 10/11 along with everything else and this country is a bunch of marshmallow again. I don't blame these kids so much as their feeble parents and leaders.

Israeli Professor Murdered As He Saved Students at Virigina Tech Shootings

Israeli professor murdered as he saved students at Vriginia Tech shootings Source: Jerusalem Post

As Jews worldwide honored on Monday the memory of those who were murdered in the Holocaust, a 75-year-old survivor sacrificed his life to save his students in Monday’s shooting at Virginia Tech college that left 32 dead and over two dozen wounded.

Professor Liviu Librescu, 76, threw himself in front of the shooter, who had attempted to enter his classroom. The Israeli mechanics and engineering lecturer was shot to death, “but all the students lived - because of him,” Virginia Tech student Asael Arad - also an Israeli - told Army Radio.

Several of Librescu’s other students sent e-mails to his wife, Marlena, telling of how he blocked the gunman’s way and saved their lives, said the son, Joe.

“My father blocked the doorway with his body and asked the students to flee,” Joe Librescu said in a telephone interview from his home outside of Tel Aviv. “Students started opening windows and jumping out.”

Liviu Librescu, was respected in his field, his son said.

“His work was his life in a sense,” said Joe. “That was a good place for him to practice his research.”

The couple immigrated to Israel from Romania in 1978 and then moved to Virginia in 1986 for his sabbatical, but had stayed since then, Joe told Army Radio.

Video games make kids avid spectators of violence.

Spectators — consumers -— as they observe it or ‘commit’ pretend violence from a safe place.

Video games, I think, would make kids appreciative of violence because they are safe and removed.

Like spectators in the Coliseum, looking on while people get slaughtered.

Doesn’t make them brave.

It’s just another result of modern society.

We no longer care for each other, and kids are told from day 1 not to fight back, turn the other cheek, fighting never solved anything, do what the gunman says and you won’t get hurt, don’t be a hero.

Then you look at male role models now a days, do you see a John Wayne?

Men have been pussified by the modern liberal and feminist movements, and the fact that no one stood up and fought back, with the exception of a holocaust survivor who knows what life is worth.

They know how to call lawyers when they get offended, but they don’t know how to stand up for themselves and others.

(Sorry if my response seems a bit disjointed, I’m still getting over the flu)
