Please add me to the pet food ping list.

Still hanging in there (I hope) with Nutro Lamb crunchies.

You've heard the latest news correct?

http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=topNews&storyid=2007-04-20T092442Z_01_N20362410_RTRUKOC_0_US-ROYALCANIN-RECALL.xml&src=rss&rpc=22

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Royal Canin USA said on Friday it was voluntarily recalling all of its dry pet food products containing rice protein concentrate after it found a melamine derivative in some products.

Melamine is an industrial chemical used to make plastics and fertilizers.

The announcement is the latest in a widening recall of dog and cat food products across the United States since mid-March. More than 100 brands of pet food have been recalled after reports of cases of pets developing kidney failure.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has received more than 14,000 reports of pet illnesses so far. Officials have confirmed just 16 deaths but believe the actual number could be higher.

Royal Canin said it had not confirmed cases of illness in pets due to its products.

"We are taking this proactive stance to avoid any confusion for our customers about which Royal Canin USA products are safe and which products may be affected," the company said in a statement.

The company will also no longer use Chinese suppliers for any of its vegetable proteins, it said.

That’s good to know. I supplement my fragile kitty with syringe feeding a/d mixed with w/d. I think the w/d has corn gluten, so I’ve been watching it closely.

Can you believe they won’t allow our inspectors in? I would think that is cause to not do business any more with them.

I know, I keep changing too and with a fragile kitty it’s hard to know if it is from the changes or from being sick.

Off topic:
Was it you that saw Candice Olsen from Divine Design in NY? I’ve been trying to remember who said that.

This report out of South Africa says “Corn Gluten” is contaminated. Don’t know if it’s a typo or a new instance.

I saw your post about your fragile kitty and had a suggestion for you :-) I feed my cat Solid Gold Katz-N-Flocken (dry food) that I buy it at the local health food store. They also produce a Blended Tuna Cat Food that is grain-free but manufactured off-shore since there are no tuna-canning facilities in the U.S.

I used to be able to get a supplement they produced called Life Exxtension and I know it added several years of life to my old cat, Louise. It’s filled with immune-enhancing ingredients, and Louise loved it! Might be worth a try if you can get it.

Best of luck with your old cat; they are lovable creatures.

I saw that—I am sweating it out because Science Diet has corn gluten in it. Noyhing is really safe it seems.
