Traffic nightmare in San Francisco Bay area

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) The San Francisco Bay Area is bracing for what promises to be a traffic nightmare for weeks or months to come.
A gasoline tanker crashed and burst into flames near the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge on Sunday. The fire created such intense heat that a stretch of highway melted and collapsed.
The truck's driver walked away with second-degree burns. No other injuries were reported.
Authorities say the damage will cause the worst disruption for commuters since the 1989 earthquake that damaged a section of the Bay Bridge itself.
Transportation officials say they've already had added trains to the Bay Area Rapid Transit rail system, and they're urging people to telecommute if possible. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared a state of emergency. He's also authorized funding so that ferries, buses and the rail system can carry commuters free of charge during Monday's commute.

The fire created such intense heat that a stretch of highway melted and collapsed. Shhh! Don't tell Rosie! According to her, fire can't melt steel and concrete.

Pssshhhhh. She’ll just say that GW had the CIA blow the bridge up in an effort to discredit her...

I was thinking the same thing when I heard Gov. Arnold quoted on the radio about steel melting.

So how was your commute this morning?
To: Incorrigible
Everybody beat me to that. I also thought of Rosie and her knowledge of engineering and her saying that steel can’t melt as happened on 9/11.
Yep, Bush hired that truck driver to crash the gas truck and disable the bridge to cause major headaches for San Francisco and Oakland.

I suppose I should get dressed and head in. Hmmmm 7 miles. Surface streets or freeways?

I saw the video of the bridge collapsing. I’m sure I saw small puffs of smoke where the demolition charges in the bridge were set off making it collapse.

Hey Martin!
I daily thank God that I don’t have to commute to the Bay Area. It’s bad enough just driving the ten miles north to Santa Cruz. Sometimes even that can take an hour.

I’m interested to hear how Gavin Newsom thinks this could have happened and what his plan is...but someone will have to get him out of whatever bathhouse he’s in.

Commuter traffic was unbearable here today too.

W-H-A-A-A-A-A ... I live in the boonies by choice, so I don’t have commuter/traffic nightmares.

Appears that there is a need a better highway lane discipline.
Somebody oughta go out there to explain the intricacies!
