(DAVIS, CA) The University of California, Davis is sponsoring an appearance by noted Holocaust denier Norman Finkelstein on the UCD campus on May 16, 2007. Norman Finkelstein has authored numerous works accusing Jewish people of exploiting the Holocaust for personal and political gain. Finkelsteins targets include respected Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz and the Anti-Defamation League.
The Associated Students of the University of California, Davis (ASUCD) and the Universitys Student Programs and Activities Center (SPAC) have approved funds for the Muslim Student Association to bring Finkelstein to campus. According to Paul Cody, assistant director for SPAC, Finkelstein characterizes the UCD Principles of Community.
How Finkelstein Characterizes the UCD Principles of Community:
Taxpayer money SHOULD NOT be funding Holocaust denial!

What a surprise. Of course, we won't hear boo about this in the media.
I wasn't even aware ex-President Carter was scheduled to speak.
I guess the Muslim Student Association had to go with him since HITLER wasn’t available.
Perhaps not fair to characterize Finkelstein as a Holocaust Denier, he's simply sympathetic to them, and doesn't have much use for Israel or Jews himself.
Kudus should go out to DePaul, instrumental in creating his image as an academic which makes appearances like this possible. An academic with few academic accomplishments, simply a couple best seller books.
I picked up on the name too. Why would one Jewish person argue against the atrocities committed on his fellow people with the mountain of evidence in the background saying the contrary.
Was listening to this speaker several mornings ago on my favorite radio station which is a Christian radio station that broadcast “It seems to me”. I came charging up out of the bed before normal time when this regular speaker went off the deep end and started on about a “zionist plot” to get the US to bomb Iraq. Whew! I emailed the station to get more info but haven’t heard yet. Surprised me out of my normal sleep-deprived world.
Jimmuh doesn’t deny the Holocaust; he’s just p.o.’ed that he missed out on it.
Finkelstein is a Holocaust Revisionist and self-hating leftist who hangs out with Holocaust deniers. He doesn’t deny the Holocaust.

Only by descent. His every move and statement have excluded him from anything to do with Judaism, its history or its people. He chooses death over life, loathing over integrity. He clearly suffers from a severe mental disorder - the mentally disturbed are just the kind of speakers that the halls of higher education welcome on a daily basis.
He's Jewish, his parents are Holocaust survivors, and he's not a Holocaust "denier" -- that's a silly overstatement.
Finkelstein's thing is that he accuses a set of people who he posits are profiting from a "Holocause industry", including such people as Eli Weisel -- that makes him a lightning rod for criticism.
I'm not taking a position as to whether anything he says has merit, but it's not "denial". And his attack on Alan Dershowitz was well-grounded.
Well said -— what’s interesting is that if you can posit, for the sake of argument, that SOME things that Finkelstein has to say either have merit or some truth or are at least worth discussing (i.e., his critique on how the money gained by Holocaust lawsuits has been tied up by the plaintiff group and is not actually being distributed to the actual survivors), then it’s also clear that the side that issued this press release is trying to silence (rather than engage) their critics by using the name “denier” falsely as a tool.
Dershowitz got into trouble when he decided to debate Finkelstein. Finkelstein ate Deshowitz up, and made an absolute fool out of him. It’s all been documented here on FR.
