CHUBBUCK, Idaho — Animal control officers had to decide if they were investigating vandalism or animal mistreatment after someone spray-painted a dog. A resident reported that he found the words "Go Home" spray-painted on the sides of his large white dog late last month.

At least they didn’t poison it with anti-freeze or shoot the dog. The owner should be cited for allowing the dog to run loose unattended and fined if it didn’t have a visible rabies vaccination or ownership tag. This owner should STFU and be grateful they don’t have a dead dog.

Unsightly as it is, it was not cruel and didn't physically hurt the dog. It sure got the owners' attention and tells everyone that the dog runs loose. I don't see a collar and a tag on the dog...I have no sympathy for owners that let their dogs run loose and then blame everyone but themselves when bad things happen to the dogs. Nothing good comes to a dog that is unattended and running loose.

The owner should be happy seeing as the dog could’ve been shot.

Idaho law requires an unfenced dog to be either on a leash or under supervision of its master. And landowners are allowed to shoot a trespassing dog if that dog is harassing livestock.

Sanders said detectives have not determined who spray-painted the animal. They decided to drop the case, partly because the dog’s owner shouldn’t have let the dog roam free.

But what about the dog’s feelings? It isn’t HIS fault his owner let him run around. And now all the other dogs will laugh at him when they play.

And good luck getting “lucky” with “Go Home” spray-painted on you. When the girl reads that, he’ll be “going home” for a cold shower.

:-)

Actually, very clever. The only way someone could spray-paint the dog was to have control over the dog in a private space. So the owner had to admit to letting his dog run loose and out of his control in order to file a complaint.

This is a case of two-wrongs-don’t-make-a-right. Now, if the dog owner was enterprising, and since the hound is now famous, he could parlay their 15-minutes into a cottage industry. Dog broadsides for rent.
