A Roswell woman on her daily walk Friday morning was attacked by a neighbor's pit bull, which tore into her head, police said.
The woman, who was saved by neighbors responding to her screams, was in surgery Friday morning at North Fulton Regional Hospital for severe but non-life threatening injuries, said Roswell Police Lt. James McGee.
Neighbors tried to stop the attack by beating the dog with sticks and shovels, but "they didn't faze him," said Charles Tedford, president of the homeowners association in the Lake Forest subdivision, where the attack occurred.
The dog finally stopped and turned on a neighbor who had been hitting it with a shovel, biting him in the arm, McGee said.
The dog then turned to attack another neighbor who was approaching with a .45-caliber pistol. He killed the dog with one shot to the head, McGee said.
The female victim was not carrying identification and neighbors did not know her name. Her home in the 900 block of Lake Haven Court, is owned by Quoc Khoan Giang, and the home phone is listed under the name of W.A. Trinh, according to records.

Good job. Nothing like a 45 to stop the show.
I’ve got a jackass neighbor with one of these dogs constantly getting loose and terrorizing the neighborhood. It may meet a similar fate someday.
Good shootin'. Unarmed there would have likely been more victims.
Of course this could have all been prevented if the neighbors had just stayed in their homes. I mean the pit bull was gentle as can be, so I'm sure the neighbors were teasing it. /s
Yep. Sad they didn’t know their neighbor, but they did outstanding. Charging dog head shot, good job.
YIKES! My old neighborhood!
If I knew there were so many good neighbors, I might not have moved.
My friend in Atlanta just sent this site to me today!

Ahh, she doesn’t speak English; that’s why they didn’t get to know her. She was so fortunate to live amongst people who won’t hide in their homes when something bad happens.
“year-old daughter when it broke free of its leash and attacked the woman, McGee said.”
Geez, it could have been the guy’s own kid. Why do people own these animals? I know, I know, they’re gentle creatures only ruined by their owners.
The neighbor’s right to own guns saved his neighbor.
Beats me why folks own those kinds of dogs anyway.
....different Roswell >>> tin foil hatter...
I think they should be declared contraband and totally outlawed.
“declared contraband and totally outlawed.”
and yet, they’re not while guns are.
strange world we live in.
The dog then turned to attack another neighbor who was approaching with a .45-caliber pistol. He killed the dog with one shot to the head, McGee said.

Apparently the aliens are not the only deadly thing in Roswell.
To get my dog to release a ball or stick, I'd press down on his tongue, and he'd open right up. 'Wonder if this would work if attacked by a pit bull? Somebody let me know if this works! :)
A Roswell woman on her daily walk Friday morning was attacked by a neighbor's pit bull, which tore into her face, head and arm, police said.
Lan Khanh Trinh, 69, was saved by neighbors who responded to her screams. She underwent surgery at North Fulton Regional Hospital for severe but non-life threatening injuries, said Roswell Police Lt. James McGee.
Twelve-year-old Payton Newell was walking the dog when Trinh came up and tried to pet it, Payton said.
"He started growling and I said, 'Don't pet him,' and she said something and she reached down to pet him," Payton said. "He backed away, then he muscled his way out of the collar and attacked her."
Neighbor Robert Bailey, a 37-year-old computer technician, heard Trinh's screams outside his window at 7:45 a.m. and raced out of his house in boxer shorts and a robe.
"He was attacking her face, biting and grabbing," Bailey said.
Bailey yanked the 60-pound male, named Achilles, off of Trinh, then positioned himself between the dog and the victim. Then he came to his senses.
"It was one of those instinctive kinds of things you just rush in," Bailey said. "Then it's, OK, I've got the dog off of her now what do I do?" You hope for reinforcements, which is what he got.
Neighbors tried to stop the attack by beating the dog with sticks and shovels, but "they didn't faze him," said Charles Tedford, president of the homeowners association in the Lake Forest subdivision, where the attack occurred.
The dog also attacked Spencer Alexander, a neighbor who had been hitting the dog with a stick. Alexander was bitten in the left arm.
The dog then turned to attack neighbor Marc Del Santro, who was approaching with a .45-caliber pistol. Del Santro killed the dog with one shot to the head, McGee said.
Tedford said Trinh speaks almost no English, but says "good morning" with a smile to everyone she meets during her daily walks in the neighborhood off of Old Alabama Road.
"We know her as the little smiling lady," Tedford said. "She's everybody's friend."
The pit bull's owner, Glenda Newell, said her "heart goes out to this person she's a very, very nice lady," but she should have backed off when Achilles started growling.
"My dog is very friendly, but he doesn't like to be touched by other people," Newell said. "He's not a monster. He was a very loving dog. Maybe she just scared him."

well personally i think that when the women was told to dont touch the dog and he was growling she should have left the dog alone .. so she is as much at fault as the dog is .. you think that pitbulls are mean dogs they arent .. granted some have been used for fighting but some like my 3 are nothing more than big babys who play with my son every day and would not hurt anyone .. so people need to stop and think .. if someone says leave him alone and the dog is growling that means LEAVE HIM ALONE..
He backed away, then he muscled his way out of the collar and attacked her.”
1) The dog slipped his collar which tells me that the dog was on a flat collar and the collar was not tight enough.
Twelve-year-old Payton Newell was walking the dog when Trinh came up and tried to pet it, Payton said He started growling and I said, ‘Don’t pet him,
2 The dog is obviously leash aggressive, the owner knew it.
“Bailey yanked the 60-pound male, named Achilles...”
So what we have here is a 100 lb, 12 year old boy walking a 60 pound leash aggressive dog on a flat collar. Any responsible dog owner should have put this dog of this size and temperament on a prong collar, or at least a choke collar. Secondly a responsible owner would not allow a child to handle this dog in public. These people knew the dog had dangerous tendencies and did nothing to protect their neighbors from it.
By the way, When they say the dog backed away, They don’t mean it baked away from Trihn. I suspect they mean the dog backed away from Newell. The boy was probably trying to pull the dog away from Trihn. The dog instinctively resisted by pulling backwards and slipped his collar.
Granted, Pitt bulls arent inherently lethal. But in the hands of the typical owner, theyre a land mine waiting to be stepped on. Its like giving a Ferrari to a 16 year old boy. He may be able to drive it around the block without an accident. Maybe the kid is mature enough to handle the responsibility, but the odds arent very good, and the other drivers on the road would be a lot safer if the kid had a Yarris.
Pit bull owners flame away
Every day I deal with a jackass neighbor and his pit bull and I am damned sick of it.
The owner being an idiot is beside the point however. I can't do much about that. The fact remains that I and my other neighbors have a lethal dog to deal with and some day it will be the dog or me or perhaps a neighborhood child.
These dogs should be required to be in a pen or other secure area. To have a dog of a type that if it should get loose, can cause injury or death to innocent bystanders in the neighborhood is frankly unacceptable.
Start requiring these people who want these dogs to carry 5 million dollar liability policies and this nonsense will stop because they won’t be willing to pay for that insurance and they will look for another breed. To even be out walking a dog like this that can aggressively attack the public is the height of irresponsibility. I say this as a dog owner for all of my adult life.
Gun bad, dog good?
i never said the gun was bad i said WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPEND IF HE HAD MISSED THE DOG AND HIT SOME ONE ...????????
If we're going to have keyword abuse, could the spelling at least be correct?
Ping!
A citizen with a .45 saves the day.

BUMP
Good. I'll bet he'd never hurt a flea, either. Dog of peace
What a load of crap. Very friendly but doesn't like to be touched. She's in denial.
Sure he's the gentlest dog in the world, and he just proved it.
Welcome to FR.
Anti-gun, pro-viscous animal, blame the victims.
Your reasoning stinks. It is good the man had a gun. If he had missed and hit someone, there’d still be a chance they’d still be less seriously injured that what that dog was doing to people.
Read the article. The lady didn’t speak English. People were beating the dog with sticks and shovels and it didn’t stop him. It was a killing machine on high. Pit bulls should be banned and shot.
This lady trusted her animal, too.
Now there's an oxymoron if I ever heard one.
I hope that he then twirled the gun on his finger, blew the smoke off the barrel, and slammed it into the holster! Good shootin' Marc.
“no its not a good thing the man had a gun”
So, you would have preferred the elderly lady had been killed rather than face the possibility of a poor shot? There’s no point in arguing what would have happened because it didn’t; other than you’re arguing that such nice doggies don’t deserve to be killed even when they’re mangling a human being.
We get the idea that you love your pitbulls, but the dog was trying to kill an elderly woman. As for not petting the dog, that information wasn’t in the original article. Nevertheless, while the woman was warned, she also did not understand English and it doesn’t justify letting a boy take out a dog he was unable to handle.
NOTE TO SELF, do not bring a dog to a gun fight.
No flames..I think your analysis in this post and the one above is pretty solid.
A child should never be given the responsiblity to control
a large or strong dog, of any breed/type, in public.
There is a leash/control law in my state, and further, there is NO legal defense if your dog injures someone, anywhere (private property or not). Taking this a tad further, you are allowed to use lethal force to protect yourself or others if you are attacked by a dog in a publicly accessible place, and this does not mean 'it drew blood.'
Put this all together, and you have, for the most part, polite dog owners. Our K9 officers are quite selective about when to release their dogs here, because the state will pay damages. You just put common sense to work, and if it involves the safety of the officer/s or the public, turn the dog loose, and pay the damages.
My partner is a 160 pound bull rottie. I don't let my kids walk him. I kinda like him. He covers my six, I cover his.
If a dog attacks me, I'll put a few .40's through it.
Questions? Buehler?
What a rediculous question. It didn't happen. The good samaritan with the .45 is a hero, and I would bet he's a good shot. I also bet he knew who or what was behind his target. It's an analysis of a situation that happens naturally for gun enthusiasts such as myself. If it was my daughter, wife, son, or even my dog being attacked by a pit bull or any other dangerous breed, I wouldn't hesitate to grab my gun and do some vicious dog killing.
The victim denies that she was trying to pet the dog.

Interesting article. Sounds like the owners are lying big time. The neighbors stories corroborate with the woman’s.
I read the article. As usual, the owner comments on how the monster was a very loving animal and then tries to blame the victim. Pit Bulls and any pit bull mix should be outlawed and destroyed. And before pit Bull owners start the usual nonsense about how the bad ones are not purebreds, yadda-yadda-yadda, everyone can recognize them, the head features are very easy to spot. And if there is any doubt, err on the side of caution and kill it anyway.
You are being serious here? Having a gun in this situation was a bad thing? Reading your other posts it is clear you are one of the typical owners. Blame the victim, fault the good neighbor who shoots the sweet dog. Unlike you, I was able to deduce from the article that if the woman had a poor command english she may have also been limited in her understanding of it when she was told not to pet the dog. I am betting any neighbors near you have a much different opinion of your precious little killers than you do.
“no its not a good thing the man had a gun”
Next time you resort to using all caps try using your entire statement and do not carefully omit the important part. By saying it is not a good thing you did indeed say it was a bad thing.
I read the article, thanks. Given a choice of deciding who is the lier I will lean toward the pit bull owner. Hope he likes the way his desire to own a badass dog to feel like a real man is gonna cost him when the woman sues him for everything he has. With luck he can eat the leftover pit bull kibble.
I don’t understand. Why didn’t they call 911? How much damage can a pit bull do in, say, 45 minutes?
I like your style.
