FR Gabbly?

Several members of other forums and sites I visit are starting to utilize gabbly for chat on that particular site.
For those that aren't familiar, Gabbly is basically a chat window that opens up and connects all gabbly users on a specific website.
You can either go to http://www.gabbly.com or you an just type http://gabbly.com/ then the url of the site you want to chat with other people on.
For FR it would be http://gabbly.com/freerepublic.com
Then you can surf around FR and chat with other FReepers who are surfing FR as well. Well.... if other FReepers started using it. I just checked and didn't see any one on. :(

Cool but it doesn’t support my browser (Opera 8.01). I am not going to start using IE in order to use this application.

Works with Firefox. Surprised it doesn’t work with Opera.
It’s a nifty toy - wouldn’t surprise me if something similar could be coded into FreeRepublic. Going to absolutely remember it for when there’s a breaking news thread going, or a live thread.

Ok, seems that whenever you refresh the page it closes and reopens gabbly, also if you click a new link on the page, it will shut down the window. I was getting around it by just leaving a tab open on the FR homepage with gabbly and browsing on another tab. But I also found these tools
here with some browser addons. I couldn't get the IE one to work but the FF works fine. You can have gabbly on the sidebar and browse wherever, even other websites and stay in the chat.

My 2 cents?
Not a bad idea to try- the old Yahoo! fallback site had a chat feature ( you had to poke around to find it, not easy ) that was actually easier to use than the main board at Yahoo.
LGF has a chat feature, too, and some swear by it.
Me, my typing and thinking are too slow...

Well the cool thing is the Gabbly feature will still function when FR is down. So u will be staring at a 404 page but the gabbly chat window will be functioning still.
