AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A man has been arrested in the beating death of a passenger who'd been riding in a car that struck a toddler in Austin, Texas.
Golden Gloves boxer Kurtiss Colvin has been charged with felony manslaughter and theft and a misdemeanor count of assault. He is being held on $215,000 bond.
Last month, David Morales died trying to protect the driver of the car he had been riding in. The driver had struck a 2-year-old boy after dropping Morales off. Though the child was not seriously injured, several people attacked the driver, and Morales tried to help him. The driver survived but Morales died of blunt force trauma to the head.
Police say they are looking for four or five people, so there may be more arrests.
The Austin police are finally moving.
His sister the victim was on heraldo and said there was a bunch of blacks that did it.
They kept saying you don’t belong here ,get out of our country and stuff like that...

Typical. Sounds like she and the rest of the relatives need to have ICE escort them back to their own country. Yeah, the family kept saying they saw it all but then whined because no one would ID the guy who did it. Excuse me, but why didn't they help the police, huh? It wasn't like they weren't all up in front of the cameras 24/7.
‘Golden Gloves’ boxers can hit really hard but it’s unlikely that it would kill the guy.
Most likely they had him on the ground and kicked him repeatedly in the head. Multiple head injuries can cause swelling of the brain and lead to death.
If this account is accurate, then Mr. Colvin should never breathe the air as a free man again. Will the prosecutor in Austin seek the maximum penalty?

In most states (and I doubt that Texas is an exception) causing death in the commission of robbery is murder whether one intends to kill or not.
The family of David Rivas Morales is AMERICAN. David was an AMERICAN. The family have never said they witnessed the beating. They just got to witness the terrible aftermath.

They sure claimed they did on every newscast I saw. The sister even said she held him and he was still breathing when they called 911. Then she complained because the ambulance stopped down the street because the police had to make sure it was safe for the EMS to come into the neighborhood. East Austin is someplace you do NOT want to go at night.
You must be watching different newscasts than me. I have read and seen interviews with the family where they clearly say they were alerted to the beating by a child knocking at their door, and when they went to investigate they saw David lying on the ground bleeding. They have not to my knowledge ever said they witnessed the beating in progress.
The city of Austin should have to explain why there was a lack of communication between the police and EMS to the point that one did not know what the other was doing. The news conferences the police held afterwards did nothing to dispel the feeling that a cover-up was in progress, at the least a whitewash of the events.
What lack of communication? It’s common practice to have EMS as well as fire personnel wait until LE clears out dangerous situations.

City officials have admitted to releasing contradictory reports.Austin EMS has acknowledged that police dispatcher called EMS urging them to hurry and did not know that EMS had been told by their dispatchers to wait for police to clear the scene.
I’d guess that the Morales family would very much like to hope that their family members death was not hastened by a slow response by emergency services. If that is not the case than EMS/police will have nothing to hide, all 911 tapes will be released and that will be the end of it. It may be that no matter how fast or slow the ambulance was to get there nothing could have been done, David Morales would still have died.

Fine, let them air the tapes. Doesn’t matter. Any time EMS or Fire is called into a dangerous area, LE must clear it first. Period. And once again, East Austin is dangerous in daylight or dark.

I guess I should check the sign-on dates. But on the other hand, there are a few posters on FR that can barely conceal their hatred. Forget that their ancestors probably came to America generations after many proud Texans of Spanish ancestry.
This guy who was murdered for attempting to protect another person was the victim in all this.

Other than being a red, white and blue born in the USA American,and a native Texan, he was also a Navy veteran.
But you never hear that. Insinuations about his family, his immigration status, etc.
Yeah well when I see someone posting rot like that and they have only been here on FR for less than a week, it sends up the red flags.
