As of yesterday I'm getting an unbelievable amount of Micrsoft Internet Explorer "search results" (which I never searched). Before I rebooted five minutes ago I had about 20 and I didn't even have MIE open.
I'm getting this message:
The instruction at "Ox44ooaccc" reference memory at "Ox4400accc". The memory could not be "read". Click on "Ok" to terminate the program.
I don't click click on "Ok" because more crazy warnings come up. I just close it out by clicking the "X".
Then I get MIE websearch homepages for:
www.play65.com
www.rewardamazon.com (about six times)
www.musicplustv.com
www.whichcelebrityareyou.com
www.consumerpromotions.com
www.paidmarketingpanel.aavalue.com
www.arn.aavalue.com
www.moneyinaclick.com
www.sportsbook.com
Plus many others.
I've never visited any of these sites and they popped up all within a matter of ten seconds.
This has never happened before.
Not really. We all run Firefox as our default browser and still get plenty of adware/spyware/malware. Still far better than IE, to be sure........but I don’t want anyone to read this thread and get a false sense of security. You need these ‘cleaners’ even when running Firefox.
I've been using it for going on 3 years now without even a hint of a malware or spyware 'infection'. I've never used any cleaners or anything, and I practically LIVE on the internet. The only thing I do is disable popups in my firefox config, and that is all. Do you update regularly?
This is on my Firefox. I only us IE for email.
How do I stop these from appearing.
It's now up to about 50 boxes that have appeared.
So far the IE search pop ups have stopped for now and I have six tabs open.

Spoke too soon; one just came up. But it's only been one in the past five minutes not a dozen in ten seconds.
Hence, my problem right now.
That said, I've been using Mozilla/Firefox for about five years now and this is the first time I've had problems with it.
I never browse with IE only Firefox.
Let me know once you’ve run AdAware and Spybot.......
NoScript is your friend.
Do you have the NoScript extension for Firefox? Are you sure that you have to use IE for email? I use Firefox at Yahoo and at Hotmail.

No I don't. I guess I just IE for email more out of habit than anything. I'm going to start using Firefox for my Yahoo email from now on.
Go ahead and download and install the extension. Restart Firefox. Open up its options [there are only a few]. I have mine set so that the NoScript indicator is down in the bottom of my FF window. It automatically blocks every script for every site unless you left-click on the little “S” indicator down there and give it either temporary or permanent permission to run scirpts from the site. It’s VERY simple to operate. I can’t think of a way to mess it up.
Post script to #31:
Any time you go to a site (to FReep a poll or to view a video, etc) and it doesn’t let you vote or view the video, go into NoScript and give the site permission to run its script.
I haven't tested Comodo BOClean & SUPERAntispyware yet, but I've read good comments about both, at various tech-related forums.
Dr. Web CureIT and McAfee Stinger do not require installation, so could be burned to CD on a second (clean) machine for use, if necessary/possible.

I would add CCleaner to that list. Sped my computer up quite a bit after installing and running (CCleaner also includes a registry cleaner which is safe to run as it’s not too aggressive, like many registry cleaners).
