First off, call the cable company and find out if they have been having any issues.

What is your phone number for customer service, maybe someone here can call for you and 3rd-party relay the information to you. Or, maybe, just maybe, you could call them, and they can do a diagnosis over the phone with you and actually figure out and correct the problem rather than work on blind assumptions with litle information.

Everything good with your picture quality on your TV? Have you tried replacing the modem or had a technician from the cable company check your lines?

I’m going to resist the temptation of making fun of your title, having said that; Are you logged in?

Hello Cable? Tell me about your mother.

I have no idea if it would cause intermittent problems, but I did once have a ‘splitter’ go bad — a part that allows the cable to go to both your modem and your TV.

I’ve had the same problem. I have to reset the modem every few days.

I called Cox and there are no internet issues, and I have no viruses (run AVG and Adaware everyday), and the cable tv in the other room is okay.

Who knows.......maybe the modem is going bad. Have had it for about two years now.

First of all, it's not your problem, it's the cable company's problem. Since the problem happens at the same time of day, it's that time the cable company is sorting servers between phone modems and non-phone modems to free up bandwith for the cable phone users. The disconnect is most like caused by the cable companies' switching unit...it's starting to go weak and will likely fail in a month or two.

Ask around and see if anyone else is having the same problem in your neighborhood, if not, it's your modem.

CCleaner restored my intermittent internet connection (a few months back). It's a small utility. I would recommend downloading/installing and running it.

CCleaner

You might be surprised how much faster your PC runs. It won't mess up your machine, either -- it's pretty straightforward, easy to use.

You can always tell a cable modem has gone south when it starts dropping the letter "h"...

Kidding. Check the lights on the modem when you have the problem. If the one marked Data is off or blinking slowly and regularly then the cable company will need to know that. If you've leased it from them they owe you another (assuming it isn't a line problem). If you bought it, well, at least they aren't very expensive to replace... :-(

Ping Plotter will do a combined ping/tracert, show packet loss for each hop, do a WhoIS for each hop, etc.

Great little tool. I've been using it for years. And at least it's a place to start.

The link for the free version is at the very bottom of their download page.

If you haven't used it before, after starting it:

Use any website (i.e. your ISP/Cable Companys' website) as the "Address to Trace"

Set "# of times to trace" to Unlimited

Set "trace delay" to 1 second

Set "samples to include" to at least 10.

Hit trace, and watch.
