NY Yankees 5, Cleveland 3

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Talk about your pushy New Yorkers.

Strutting into Jacobs Field for the weekend, the Yankees made themselves right at home. They bullied the Cleveland Indians before leaving with three wins and the same confidence that has made them champions many times before.

"I feel like we're the team," Andy Pettitte said.

When weren't they?

Pettitte didn't have much trouble with Cleveland's lame lineup and Jason Giambi homered for the second straight day as the Yankees beat the Indians 5-3 to complete a series -- and season -- sweep on Sunday.

Written off in May when they trailed first-place Boston by 14 1/2 games, the Yankees pulled within four of the Red Sox, who lost 6-3 in 10 innings at Baltimore. It's the closest New York has been to the top of the AL East standings since April 24.

I’m going to stick my neck out on this: The Yankees will sweep the Red Sux in New York on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, August 28, 29, and 30 and will sweep the Sux in Boston on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, September 14, 15, and 16 to redeem themselves for choking to let the Sux into the World Series progress in the playoffs the year the Sux ended their 86 year drought.

The rest are ditzy broads and yuppie transplants who will dump the team once they move back to whatever hellhole they came from before they invaded Manhattan.

That describes Met fans better. Fair weather fans six ways to Sunday. Bridge & tunnel crew, bigtime. They tend to like Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel, too. Poor things.

Yuppies (or what’s left of them) tend to be Met fans, not Yankee fans.

It’ll be the biggest choke in MLB history — from 14.5 games up to not even making the wild card. ....

Sorry, the biggest choke in MLB history belongs to the 2004 Yankees who lost 4 straight ALCS playoff games to the Red Sox after winning the the first 3 games out of a seven game series.

Nah, Mets fans are hard core townies from Lawn Guyland, Queens, and Brooklyn who are there to the bitter end. You will NEVER find some trustafarian punk who just moved to the city (Williamsburg!) at a Mets game, but you will find plenty of such people at Yank-off games.

BTW: A-Rod is just too pretty to play on a baseball diamond. He looks like he should be playing on a soccer field instead.

Although a sweep of the Bosox later this month would be quite welcome it wouldn't even come close to redeeming the disaster in '04. Redemption will only come with a division title (after coming from 14.5 back) and then winning the WS. Nothing short of that will do.

Remember, in sports, HISTORY MEANS NOTHING!

Isn't that the Cubs fanbase's motto?

Yuppies are still very much around, but they don’t call themselves as such. These are the folks who grew up in McSuburb, move frequently without putting down roots, and eat alot of sushi.

LOL! I lived in Chicago for two years. It is indeed.

The fan dynamic in Chicago is a little different. The Cubs fanbase is largely families with kids. The White Sox fanbase are largely underemployed alcoholics.

If it’ll make you feel better go on believing that BS. But the team with supposedly the “best pitching in the majors” blowing a 14.5 game divsion lead and then not even making the playoffs is an infinitely bigger choke job. .....and it’s going to happen.

Met fans are bridge and tunnel crew, for sure, but not diehards by any stretch.

Lots of guys who work on wall street and high five each other.

I think you’re overstating it to the point of being wrong.

Crying about payroll discrepancies is the sign of a loser.
