17 is legal in Georgia.

I'll bet you have a US map showing all of the states labled with the legal age of consent!

“Is that really me? It’s like I’m not in my actual body.”

Not going near that one, too easy, and the first thought that popped into my head, which was fairly witty and funny, would get me SO banned.

Anyone who believes that they are articulate should read, just once, a verbatim transcript of a deposition in which one is the deponent. I have read my share over the years, and even the smartest folks don’t always come across that way when someone is typing everything you say. I also suffer the discomfort of reading my own questions, which never sound as articulate as I recall them.

Negative. Truthfully -- if I was even available -- I wouldn't date anyone under 30 these days.

But I am not available, so I won't date anyone except Karen!

I hear ya - I wouldn’t want to try to relate either. My little lady’s the old fart in our relationship (by a whole 6 months!)

Her answer, in its entirety, was: “I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uhmmm, some people out there in our nation don't have maps and uh, I believe that our, I, education like such as, uh, South Africa, and uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should, uhhh, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, should help South Africa, it should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future, for us.”

Are you SURE she's from SC? Sounds like she went to our school and have one of the history teachers who is so obsessed with Africa that that's all she talked about. Some of my daughter's friends who had her were really concerned about passing their regents. Their opinion was" Everybody who had _______ is going to fail. We're dead."

When I started teaching, I was fortunate to have a new-teacher buddy videotape a class of mine (I returned the favor). I was appalled at how few complete, diagrammable sentences I spoke.

I try VERY hard to be articulate enough in speech that it’d read well if printed.

I said,
. . . the interview part of the contest is the most extreme example of the difference. The interview is not an intellectual contest. To the contrary it is a Political Correctness contest. The challenge is to come up with the safest answer. If the question is about failure of teens to know something simple, the answer it is that "Class sizes are too big, and teachers aren't paid enough." The entire Democratic Party, and most importantly all journalists, will adopt you as their sweetheart. And therefore the judges will swoon.
. . . and make no mistake, by design the televised "Great Debates" resemble nothing so much as beauty pageants. They are structured to suit journalists, and therefore are intended to pressure the "contestants" to express PC sentiments.

Which, of course, is a game at which a Democrat can always beat a Republican.

Journalists are supposed to be objective, but they are heavily biased in favor of controlling the power of PR.

Republicans are supposed to help those who would rather work than be poor - but they are biased in favor of getting good PR.

Democrats are supposed to favor the poor and the downtrodden. In other words, they make sure to do nothing which would compromise their ability to get good PR.

Why Broadcast Journalism is
Unnecessary and Illegitimate

How weird ... but that’s what the transcript said, anyway.

She certainly is pretty.

AHA!!

You DO follow Da Rules. ;-)

And even cut yourself 1 1/2 years short.

Just from a practical perspective, it is sometimes hard to communicate with somebody too young, as the following conversation shows.

I was talking to my friend that fits into the Half Your Age Plus Seven Rule for my age and mentioned something about the TV show "Leave it to Beaver".

"Oh, that was the TV show about that black family."

"No, "Leave it to Beaver" was not a black show.

"I'm pretty sure it was."

"Trust me on this one. "Leave it to Beaver" was NOT a black show."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes. Positive. Absolutely no doubt about it. Trust me."

"Let's look it up."

"ARRRGGHHH!!!"
