TUCSON, Ariz. A Mrs. America contestant from Tennessee spent about 15 hours in a hospital here after being bitten by a rattlesnake at a hotel.
Christina Ryan of Franklin said she caught sight of a spider on an outside staircase at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort while walking to a rehearsal last Sunday morning for this weekends competition.
She jumped away from it and a rattlesnake bit her right foot, just above her toe.
As time went on, Ryan said the pain got worse. She spent about 15 hours in the hospital and received 10 vials of antivenin before being released.
Ryan said shes working on walking in heels on the swollen foot.
Interviews for the Mrs. America contestants will be held Saturday with preliminary competition Sunday and the finals on Sept. 5.

Maybe she should have stomped the spider instead.
She cannot win for losing. This is creepy!
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
The spiders and snakes may be organizing!
“Step into my parlor”, said the spider to Mrs. Tennessee.
She got off easy
“Some countries don’t have snakes ... like, ummm, the Ireland, and South Africa. So, like, I think we need to work on and such, South Africa and ... and that’s what I think.”
These beaty-pageant contestants aren’t very smart. There are easier ways to get one’s name in the papers. ;)
She’s walking in heels with her foot like that? It must have barely nicked her or it had recently used it vemon on something else. I’ve seen whole legs swell up like watermelons for days after a rattlesnake bite.

I was spinning off the other Beauty Contest girl a few days ago who was asked why one-fifth of Americans can’t locate the U.S. on a map, and who somehow managed to center her answer on South Africa.
When I was 6 I attended a birthday party in the backyard of one of our neighbors in El Paso. While playing in the yard in the early evening a little girl the same age stepped on a rattler, and it was horrible to watch. Her leg turned as blue as my jeans, and swelled unbelieveably. As long ago as that was I still remember it vividly. The little girl did recover but was badly scarred from the bite.
And here I thought that beauty queen contestants were the pinnacle of American intellectualism :<)
Beside the point observation: Isn’t the mere existence of a “Mrs. America” pageant more than a little strange? There doesn’t seem to be much point beyond the obvious “milf” connotations.
The spider was in cahoots with the snake. It was a classic bait and switch variant called the scare and rattle scam.
Where’s Dick Morris when you need him?
Son4 got bitten by a rattler in TN 2 years ago. Did you think there weren’t any there??
As the lyric goes, “I don’t like spiders & snakes; & that ain’t what it takes to love me, you fool, fool.” [Maybe her Volunteer suiter should have tried another angle]

DAVID BELLAMY
I remember when Mary Lou said, "You wanna walk me home from school?"
Well I said yes I do
She said I don't have to go right home
And I would kinda like to be alone some if you would I said me too
And so we took a stroll and wound up down by the swimming hole
And she said do what you want to do
I got silly and found a frog in the water by a hollow log And I shook it at her and I said, "This frog's for you." She said,
I don't like spiders and snakes
And that ain't what it takes to love me
You fool, you fool
I don't like spiders and snakes
And that ain't what it takes to love me
Like I wanna be loved by you
Well I think of that girl from time to time, I call her up when I got a dime
I say, "Hello baby. She say, "Ain't you cool."
Said, "Do you remember when, and would you like to get together again"
She said "I'll see you after school"
I was shy and so for awhile most of my love was touch and smile
So she said, "Come on over here."
I was nervous as you might guess
Still looking for something to slip down her dress
And she said, "Let's make it perfectly clear." She said
I don't like spiders and snakes
And that ain't what it takes to love me
You fool, you fool
I don't like spiders and snakes
And that ain't what it takes to love me
Like I wanna be loved by you
Hey I’m just here for the pics! lol
That’s what Tennessee whiskey’s for.
Dick Morris will come over and suck her foot if need be.
The spider and the snake were working together, I just know it. Mwahahahaha.
This story missed the part about being saved by Mrs. Idaho . Boy , your senator does one little thing and ....
absolutely. hardly a week goes by that I don't get bit by a copperhead or a water moccasin. The rattlers usually only bite tourists though.
Earlier in the year I had a cow that got snake bit, where
she was hit it looked like a large watermellon under the skin.
We`re rooting for Mrs Tn,her lucks gotta pick up after this.
She was in Arizona when this happened.
“hardly a week goes by that I don’t get bit by a copperhead or a water moccasin. The rattlers usually only bite tourists though.”
LOL.
Just a couple months ago I killed an Eastern Diamondback on my front stoop. I’m in MS but when I looked it up, I was surprised to see they were indigenous to such a large area.
LOL. Reminds me of that song,
“I don’t like spiders and snakes, and that ain’t what it takes to love me . . . “
Seriously, I’m tough as nails for a girl, but a spider or snake freaks me out. Last year a friend and I picked up my 17 foot canoe and threw it over our heads, then strapped it to the hood of the truck to take to the lake.
When we got to the lake a snake was crawling in the canoe. A little one, garden snake, but it still freaked me out Ewwww.
This happened in Arizona, but we have a lot of copperheads here in Tennessee, and a few timber rattlers.
Oh Diana, I heard on the news that Miss Wisconsin called 9/11 for Miss Tennessee when this happened, Miss Iowa picked the fang out of MT’s foot. We country gals stick together (grin).
Who saved Mrs. Tennessee?
Idaho, Alaska.

Mrs. Tennessee America Bitten by Rattlesnake, Saved by Mrs. Idaho
Yikes! She’s very lucky to even be walking now, let alone trying to walk in high heels. I have much respect for rattlers having had several close encounters with them when living in So CA.
..Florida has 'coral snakes' that are small, colorful, quite venomous and actually chew on you once they get a hold.
..nasty little critters
Was foot-tapping involved?
I think coral snakes are on the top ten list of most venomous.
Absolutely not something to be messed with.
It's hard to tell the difference between the Florida coral and the non poisonous King snake.
They are basically colored identically but the colors are separated slightly.
I was gonna offer to suck out the venom...
but not her foot!!
We lived in Palatka (sp) Fla. when I was young, my younger brother and sister were born there.
Mom said my older brother was playing with a coral snake when we lived there. She made him put it down, later found out what it was. Fortunately he didn’t get bit.
I have three brothers, two of which loved to play with snakes when they were kids. My brother, one year younger than me, had one in our storage room (attached to the house) when I was a kid (don’t know what kind, he didn’t tell anybody he had it). I picked up a (supposedly empty) canning jar Mom had there, moved it to look for something, and there was that snake in it. I dropped the jar, which shattered (got out of there quick), and the snake was never found.
That brother was always doing stuff like that. It was pretty harrowing being his sister.
What part of Tennessee are you from?
You deal with the venom, I’ll start CPR.
East Tennessee :)
You know what my first thought was, though? I wondered if this was a "competitive to the death Texas Cheerleader" situation where a competitor threw a snake on her while she was sleeping!
I'm more a-skeered of City Gals than I am of snakes; they fight dirty, LOL!
LOL. Be careful out there gathering that corn for the hens.
I think about copperheads every time I go into my little garden. They are pretty camoflagued in the landscape here. At least you can hear a rattler before it strikes. However, my two dogs pretty much keep everything cleared out of my yard here.
I ain’t too worried about them city girls, heck they would be a skeered of breaking a fingernail. Can you imagine trying to thread a “night crawler,” what we call big earthworms here, on the end of a hook with them long artificial fingernails?
Well, that explains it!
Tennessee has three grand divisions, three separate states, to hear us locals tell it :)
West Tennessee is basically Mississippi in disguise.
Middle Tennessee is nice, but ain’t east Tennessee.
East Tennessee is God’s country.
Ducking now Grammy (grin).
