LAKE LOS ANGELES - Two pit bulls were shot by a sheriff's deputy Monday when one of the dogs tried to escape and another lunged toward him after they had viciously mauled a pony, officials said. The pony was euthanized by a veterinarian at the scene due to the extent of its injuries, said Deputy Kelly Simon of the Lancaster Sheriff's Station. Deputies said half the pony's face was bitten off.
The pony's owner, who also owns the pit bulls, shot at the dogs with .22 snake shot after he saw them mauling his pony, Simon said. The dogs, a female and male, ran underneath the house and hid, he said.
Two sheriff's Community Oriented Policing unit deputies arrived about 11:20 a.m. to the home in the 40200 block of 166th Street East, in a neighborhood south of Avenue O, Simon said.
The male pit bull hiding underneath the home began foaming at the mouth and ran toward a deputy, Simon said.
The deputy shot at the dog twice with a shotgun, he said.

Pit bulls are like muzzies. Kinda hard to tell the moderates from the radicals.
