Manhunt finds missing boy asleep under bed

Police with dogs, dozens of neighbours and a helicopter spent two hours searching for a missing five-year-old boy who eventually turned up — asleep under his bed.

A search was launched for Alex Olver — during which 11 people rummaged through his bedroom — after his parents reported him missing on Tuesday evening in Saltash, Cornwall.

The town mayor, a local football team, troupes of teenagers and elderly residents all turned out to help search.

But Alex was eventually discovered by a sniffer dog safe and well covered by a blanket under his bed.

Alex's mother, Clare Olver, 35, yesterday described him as "a cheeky little monkey — who sleeps like a log".

Mrs Olver, a lunchtime supervisor, said seven people and four police officers searched the house from top to bottom looking for Alex.

"The dog handler came in and went upstairs," she said. "I then heard him shout 'Look what I found' and he came downstairs with Alex asleep across his chest.

"I'm so grateful to everyone who helped us, the support was overwhelming and we will never forget it."

There’s a story like this in one of the “Anne of Green Gables” series, where they find the little boy asleep in an alcove behind the open door of his bedroom!

I lost a six year old who was sleeping in an empty cardboard box in the living room once. Hubby was just dialing 911 after a thurough search of the home/yard when decided to lift the flap.

You don’t normally expect to find such a large child curled up like a kitten in such a small box (relative to the child), especially after all the frantic yelling, shouting and stomping past it umpteen times.

Hehe. Same thing happened in Tustin California back in the '80s.

I was sleeping off a big night before when a pounding noise on the door interrupted my hangover.

One of the kids that lived downstairs was missing and everyone was mobilizing to search the neighborhood.

"I'll be right there, did anyone look under the bed?"

Before I got my boots on they found the kid had slipped between his mattress and the wall. He was still sleeping when they woke him up.

A good ending.

LOL Good to know that people do mobilize! Most people are good and decent folks that will look out for each other when the chips are down!

A neighborhood search started for the little girl across the street - she turned up sleeping flat in bed, tucked amid the pillows.

And we were a few seconds from calling 911 for our own 3 y.o. son, when he turned up sleeping on top of the car, like a cat.
