LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech has banned the sale of a T-shirt bearing the likeness of Michael Vick hanging the dog mascot of rival Texas A&M.
The red and black shirts, with text that says "VICK 'EM" on the front in an apparent reference to the Aggies' slogan "Gig 'em," was created by a Tech student who was trying to sell them before Saturday's game in Lubbock.
The back of the shirt shows a football player wearing the No. 7 Vick jersey holding a rope with an image of the mascot Reveille at the end of a noose. Vick, who faces up to five years in prison after pleading guilty to a federal dogfighting charge, is suspended indefinitely by the NFL.
Tech officials late Tuesday announced the fraternity that sold the shirts was suspended temporarily and will face judicial review for allegedly violating the solicitation section of the students' code of conduct.
The school said it wouldn't allow the sale on campus of items that are "derogatory, inflammatory, insensitive, or in such bad taste."
No more shirts are being produced, the school said in a release.

Tasteless...but damned funny.
It did make my laff.
I prefer the “Tuck Fexas” shirts.
I did not realize that Sand Aggies had such a good sense of humor.
The problem with that is how many of the students recognize that it's misspelled?
I am pretty sure the Tech students realize it, but not sure ut kids do.... ;^)
It was made from a bicycle’s handle bars, front has a muzzle and at the rear it has a huge screw.
ROFL! But it does have to go.
“The school said it wouldn’t allow the sale on campus of items that are “derogatory, inflammatory, insensitive, or in such bad taste.””
Isn’t Texas Tech a state school? Such a ban would seem to me an obvious 1st amendment violation.
Isn't the atmosphere of our state intitutions of higher learning wonderful? This is apparently 'over the line', but in Colorado it is okay for a state school newspaper to print "Taser this: F**k Bush."
Personally, I think that is a hilarious t-shirt.
Well, normally I like dark humor, but this one gives me the creeps. I guess I’m too much of a dog person to find humor in the horrible things Vick did to those poor dogs.
Tasteless and very incorrect. I hope the kid made some beer money from it before they shut him down.
I am going have to tell my Aggie roommate about this.....after I put some body armor first!
I saw one that said,
Save a Dog
Neuter M. Vick
Chances are TTU is going to *hang* about 50 on them fighting Texas Aggies.
This is hugh! This is series! I just hope the frat is not put on double secret probation.
I suspect demand for the t shirts has increased as a result of the college administration doing what they do best: attempt to regulate free thought.
>>Isnt Texas Tech a state school?<<
If you want to call it a “school,” yeah, I guess.
Tacky...funny, but tacky.
“OU and UT nave cost each other a shot at a national title or two over the past decade”
Doesn’t seem fair, does it? Maybe the Shootout should be a 13th game or something?
As a Tech grad, I resent that implication... :)
At least we had the decency to not promote the t-shirt (I do think it’s funny), but at least it is a start to try and restore some civility to the cirriculum that other institutions seem to have lost (Colorado?)
Tech by 21...
IDIOTIC Tech Frat T-Shirt Stunt notwithstanding, we put a defense together 2 weeks ago after getting rid of that bump on a log of a defensive coordinator, Lyle Setencich (but a good guy and praying for he & his family on her illness), and putting Ruffin McNeill in that position.
As for our offense,

Oh, and Guns-Up PING!
I mean it when I say Tech reminds me of highschool six-man football, where every player on the offense is an eligible receiver. There maybe only 11 players out there, but it feels like 7 of them are receivers every time.
Thanks. They are fun to watch. And now, the defense is more fun to watch than before 2 weeks ago.
Guns Up.
THE Lyle Setencich??!!?? He was run out of town as head coach after three disasterous season in the mid 1980's at Boise State...in my family (of which I'm the sole non-Boise St fan) that name is one you just never bring up. :)
The very one, unfortunately. He's had Tech fans cussing his name for the past 3 or 4 years. Get this...up until 2 weeks ago, the defense didn't tackle during practice. He supposedly gave head coach Mike Leach his first job, and so Leach felt some kind of loyalty/debt to him. I get a feeling there were some high-level alum calls placed after our loss to OSU loss (when we racked up 50+ points and yet still lost thanks to the defense).
Don’t you know? A&M claims we are not a rival of theirs.
Fear the crab! lol
Let me guess, ut?
Anything can happen and this is always a tense game for me, but to answer your question, Tech has defeated A&M 9 of the last 12 games.
You're right - A&M needs to win a few of these games before it's considered a rivalry........
Tech 48 - A&M 23
They won in Lubbock in 1993.
So you're saying that it was so long ago that Vince Foster was still alive . . . . .
Now that was funny....
Not if you're Vince Foster....{{{shudder. shudder.}}}
SAVE COACH FRAN!!!
No, an Aggie.
>>A&M needs to win a few of these games before it’s considered a rivalry<<
First of all, having A&M as a rival is tech’s wet dream. Nobody else will admit to being your rival, so it has to be A&M in your minds. Second, A&M has a 34-30-1 all time record in this series, and considering tech has won (or in the case of 1995, had gifted to them) 9 of the last 12, A&M pretty much owned this series until recent years.
If I were you, I’d enjoy the success now because it won’t last.
Oh, but we ARE!!!

Domination? That’s pretty funny. And inaccurate.
In the last 12 games, of which tech won 9, the average score was 26 to 20 (obviously, tech with 26). Considering 1) tech had 2 blowouts over A&M and 2) A&M didn’t blow out tech at all, that can hardly be considered domination. What I mean by this is that with the blowouts (or lack thereof), the point spread should be a lot higher, but isn’t.
techs wins included a 4, 1, 2, 3, 3, and 7 point difference. All those games could have easily turned on one or two plays. I’m not saying the wins were illegitimate (except the ‘95 game; no one could seriously argue that game wasn’t stolen from A&M); I’m saying the games were close and tech hasn’t dominated anyone, much less A&M.
As I said, it isn’t going to last. But you’ll find that out soon enough.
Oh, and while we are here, explain one other thing: during that run of 9 of 12, tech’s high water win mark is 9 games (something a mediocre A&M team pulled off last year). Why don’t you concentrate on winning more games and the Big 12 South (something you haven’t done and probably won’t ever do) rather than putting all your energy into beating A&M? Honestly, if you could tell me we’d win every game we played every year except for the tech game, I’d probably take that deal right now. Delusional tech fans wouldn’t take a similar deal because they are so desperate for a rival or to be noticed.
Finally, tech isn’t and never will be a rival of A&M. Not a real rival, anyway. Conference foe, yes, rival, no. Baylor is way ahead of you due to history and the fact that A&M and Baylor have played in games that decided championships. tech hasn’t done that with anyone.
Well, you may be right about that, considering our 9 wins to your 3 wins (and game stats notthwithstanding, it's either the W or L that counts in the end)....But, what is a "real" rival, anyway? Even one of your players is saying Tech is not a "must win" game....but then another one "guaranteed" it. Is that a money-back guarantee, or what?
