I’’l == I’ll
*sigh*
The first two were dogs that no amount of acting talent could save, not even the Cigarette-Smoking Man.
Number three had Malcolm McDowell, making it slightly interesting, if only because someone was finally doing something. Unfortunately, the story, while it didn't blow in and of itself, wasn't presented very well. I guess they didn't want the android to be Data but they went too far in the other direction. I couldn't understand most of what the android was saying, and didn't really care about him (not good), so by the time they got to the "Young Frankenstein" ending (whoops, derivative), I was ready to shut the set.
Episode four had its pros and cons.
Pro: it was written by Harlan Ellison, who is arguably a master of science fiction (though I think he would prefer the term "speculative fiction").
Con: it was written by Harlan Ellison, who is definitely an acquired taste. If you hate him, you hate him.
Pro: Harlan wrote the screenplay.
Con: it was cowritten with someone else. That means that HE worked with someone or it was doctored after HE was done with it. HE has had three spectacular fallouts with TV people that it is amazing that he even considered this.
Pro: Actors that could work with the material.
Con: the material ... you kinda knew where it was going to eventually go.
The ending, of course, was the problem. "People are bad". The bigger problem with that ending is that it could just as easily been a scene in rough terrain in the Amazon jungle, and nothing up to that point would have to have been changed.
In other words, a little explanation or exposition was needed. Was it a planned double-cross from the beginning? Did the vaccine fail? Was the entire story a lie in the first place? Was the vaccine just for The Powers That Be?
It was incongruous to the rest of the episode, except that it verified the Capt's worst fears.
That show was a disaster...
This week’s episode of “Torchwood” was the best so far!
Jack, Gwen, Owen, Tosh and Ianto out in the wide open spaces that were scary as Hell. Topped with a psycho bad guy right out of Wolf Creek.
The “Cybermen”, double-play on “Dr. Who” looked very good.
Was kind of neat seeing the “Iron Chef”’s Chairman playing a guest character on “Stargate: Atlantis”.
Jack.
The shuttle pilot was kinda good ,,,
“Moonlight isn’t half bad.
Granted, the first two episodes sucked so badly that I doubt many people saw the last two. The last one was almost passably good. They all suffered from being TOO LONG and probably all could've been squeezed into a half an hour, but they might not be able to justify the budget for only a half-hour.
And, with respect to Steven Hawkins, I really couldn't understand a thing he was saying.
Missed that. I'll have to keep an eye out for it.
I liked it, except for the pairing up of Gwen and Owen. Sorry, not really buying it. Plus, Gwen's already involved. Granted, i figured that she'd get involved and I was pretty sure that it wasn't going to be with Jack, so next "logical" choice, i guess. But I didn't think it was going to be this quickly.
And for once, I can't invite my son to watch it with me. It's a little too much for a 10 year old.
The first episode (the first half of the pilot) was AWESOME. I was glued to my seat and have watched it three times already.
Unfortunately, there appear to be only 19 episodes that were made, but I will be watching every one. I think this show is now on my “must buy DVD” list.
Let's face it, any show that starts with Earth being destroyed and goes on from there, just has to be good...
You mean, Iron Chef: Wraith?
Guess what the surprise ingredient was...
I KNEW he looked familiar, but just couldn't place him.
*
I wondered why I couldn’t place him.......hehe
I began to watch episodes of Torchwood like I said and....
....liking it....so far.

Does the NBC show ‘Chuck’ count as sci-fi? It’s more of a spy/nerd/comedy thing, but it contains enough ridiculous spy technology, and it always makes me laugh, cause it’s such an accurate portrayal of nerd life and culture when the whole spy thing isn’t happening. And it has the guy who played Jayne from Firefly - I just noticed that tonight, and it made me happy when I did.
I only watch Heroes regularly, I’ve seen it since the third episode or so, and have loved it since then.
Does anyone know if Journeyman or Bionic Woman are any good? I’ve been thinking of checking them out online but haven’t had the time.
And, once again, that trailer Kicked Serious *ss, and pity those of you that never got to see it!
“Torchwood” is an anagram of “Doctor Who”.
