In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
inimical \ih-NIM-ih-kul\, adjective
1. Having the disposition or temper of an enemy; unfriendly; unfavorable.
2. Opposed in tendency, influence, or effects; antagonistic; adverse.
Example sentences:
Here the planet under scrutiny is Venus -- a world even more inimical to human existence than Mars. With a poisonous CO2 atmosphere, hellish temperatures and atmospheric pressure 90 times that of Earth's, "a person exposed to Venus's surface . . . would flash-burn a split second before any remaining chemical residue was squashed flat."
-- Gerald Jonas, "Science Fiction", New York Times, February 27, 2000
Yeats's conflict with his father was not only about the conventional employment which J. B. Yeats believed was inimical to creative freedom.
-- Terence Brown, The Life of W. B. Yeats
Etymology:
Inimical comes from Late Latin inimicalis, from Latin inimicus, unfriendly, adverse, hostile, from in-, not + amicus, friendly, well-wishing, favorable to, from amare, to love.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

Good Morning!
"Here the planet under scrutiny is Venus -- a world even more inimical to human existence than Mars. With a poisonous CO2 atmosphere, hellish temperatures and atmospheric pressure 90 times that of Earth's ..."
While it is true that Venus has high temperature and pressure which is
inimical to life
at its surface, those same conditions allow a variety of temperatures and pressures as one descends through the atmosphere.
Like an elevator whose bottom floor is Hell, we would be motivated to find a comfortable accommodation somewhere above that level.
Fortuitously, such a position can be found. There is a range of altitudes where the temperature and pressure approximate the
inimitable delightfulness of Earth, and all one needs to avail himself of it is the equivalent of an atmospheric bathysphere.
Using rigid low-pressure or vacuum "flotation chambers", a floating city could be tethered to the hellish "ocean floor" below, and a comfortable existence could be eked out dredging the bottom for materials and mining the atmosphere for gases.
Venus is actually more colonizable and sustainable than Mars, though it is also more
inimical to life.

Well, they’re putting pieces back together - may be finished here in Houston by the weekend.
Probably one more overhaul (4-5 weeks ????) on 12 hour days then the “season” is over..

you know... xsboy's bday is tomorrow, so there was something going on at that time of year, obviously! they are three years and one day apart and if xsteen had been born a half hour later, they would both have been born on the 26th.
the hildebeast's bday is the 26th, and xsteen was relieved to hear she shared her bro's bday instead of her's.

Wouldn't you just love to turn on Special Report w/Brit Hume, to see footage of Condi's hands wrapped around her throat, shaking her like a rag doll.....
Thats the problem in this day and age, people dont fear immediate physical reprisal, because the courts are unwilling to say, "Well, you obviously had it coming"
