"My books are about killing God!" An athiest's 'Narnia' knockoff
World Net Daily ^ | October 26, 2007 | Dr. Ted Baehr

On Dec. 7, 2007, the movie "The Golden Compass," based on the first book in the fantasy trilogy entitled "His Dark Materials" by atheist Philip Pullman will be released in theaters throughout the world. Pullman wrote his fantasy trilogy because he was so upset by the Christian evangelism of C.S. Lewis in his wonderful series of Christian tales entitled "The Chronicles Of Narnia." Pullman is an avowed atheist who has dedicated his life to undermining Christianity and the Church among young readers. The film's release is only another example of a culture spiraling away from faith, a culture into which we must step in and declare truth.

Pullman represents God as a decrepit and perverse angel in his novels, who captures the dead in a "prison camp" afterlife. As one fallen angel tells one of the novel's young heroes:

The Authority, God, the Creator, the Lord, Yahweh, El, Adonai, the King, the Father, the Almighty – those were all names he gave himself. He was never the creator. He was an angel like ourselves – the first angel, true, the most powerful, but he was formed of Dust as we are, and Dust is only a name for what happens when matter begins to understand itself. When the hero finally finds this "god," he is ultimately described as a "demented and powerless" creature that "could only weep and mumble in fear and pain and misery." The boy then kills this "god" by breaking him out of his crystal cell, thereby evaporating him. The only "god" in this universe is matter.

A statement made by Phillip Pullman, the author of The Golden Compass, in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald:

"I've been surprised by how little criticism I've got. Harry Potter's been taking all the flak. I'm a great fan of J.K. Rowling, but the people - mainly from America's Bible Belt - who complain that Harry Potter promotes Satanism or witchcraft obviously haven't got enough in their lives. Meanwhile, I've been flying under the radar, saying things that are far more subversive than anything poor old Harry has said. My books are about killing God."

Attacks on God are very overrated.

"Meanwhile, I've been flying under the radar, saying things that are far more subversive..."

Translation: "Listen to me, dammit!! I'm so desperate for attention, I'll say anything! Why aren't you people buying my books and going to my movies? Can't you see I've got a very important agenda here?!"

Yes they are. When the first one hits the screen, people will notice. He’s a much better writer than Rowling. Much, much better. And he somewhat hides his God-punch until the end of his first book. Rowling has her witchcraft proudly displayed from the beginning. But Pullman really doesn’t get to his outright destruction of anything Christian until the third book of his trilogy. I’m reading it now and it’s surprisingly a snoozer after the first two well-written ones. My guess is that he’s so intent on pulling his anti-Christian punches that he let the quality of his writing go.

I’ve never understood the point of view of an atheist. If, as they define themselves, are of the mind that God does not exist, then why all the vitriol? I don’t believe in Santa Claus but have never bothered to have a cruel word toward him. What good would it do?

“If, as they define themselves, are of the mind that God does not exist, then why all the vitriol?”

Because they do believe. They just have a problem with Him. They try to hurt God and his followers by repeatedly and publicly denying his existence in varying ways. That’s not all atheists but I do believe that describes the most vocal ones.

tree, forest, noise.

What, he believes in angels and an afterlife, but not God? If not, he’s just writing fantasy. Most fantasy attacks God in some way or another. People love to fantasize about not having a God above them.

He wants to sell more books and is p!ssed that the book series that is a best seller gets the criticism.

He’d be known around the world if his characters skull-F****ed Mohammed.

The Left isn’t about convincing you to their worldview. They are about salting the ground of your own foundation.

They want you to lose your religion and morality. You become malable like clay.
