"My books are about killing God!" An athiest's 'Narnia' knockoff
World Net Daily ^ | October 26, 2007 | Dr. Ted Baehr

On Dec. 7, 2007, the movie "The Golden Compass," based on the first book in the fantasy trilogy entitled "His Dark Materials" by atheist Philip Pullman will be released in theaters throughout the world. Pullman wrote his fantasy trilogy because he was so upset by the Christian evangelism of C.S. Lewis in his wonderful series of Christian tales entitled "The Chronicles Of Narnia." Pullman is an avowed atheist who has dedicated his life to undermining Christianity and the Church among young readers. The film's release is only another example of a culture spiraling away from faith, a culture into which we must step in and declare truth.

Pullman represents God as a decrepit and perverse angel in his novels, who captures the dead in a "prison camp" afterlife. As one fallen angel tells one of the novel's young heroes:

The Authority, God, the Creator, the Lord, Yahweh, El, Adonai, the King, the Father, the Almighty – those were all names he gave himself. He was never the creator. He was an angel like ourselves – the first angel, true, the most powerful, but he was formed of Dust as we are, and Dust is only a name for what happens when matter begins to understand itself. When the hero finally finds this "god," he is ultimately described as a "demented and powerless" creature that "could only weep and mumble in fear and pain and misery." The boy then kills this "god" by breaking him out of his crystal cell, thereby evaporating him. The only "god" in this universe is matter.

Wonder how many copies were bought by activist librarians. The left would lose a lot of funding if library purchases were merit based and objective.

Call him a bigot as Ann Coulter and Mel Gibson were branded.

He’s an atheist fundamentalist seeking to convert your kids to his no god god.

I read Golden Compass and loved it. I sensed a little anti-Christian bias, but never thought much of it since there's a lot of anti-Christian bias about nowadays.

I then read Subtle Knife. Oh my...did I get blasted with some anti-Christian garbage. But, I suffered through it to the end. The book left a terrible taste in my mouth.

I discussed this on Free Republic and heard from various posters that the third book, Amber Spyglass, was FAR worse. I chose not to even attempt it as I don't need to read nor support that kind of nonsense.

It is very obvious that Pullman intentionally wrote a trilogy of young adult novels specifically designed to pull the reader in and increasingly work to pry the reader away from his/her Christian beliefs. The payoff in the final novel is that God revealed to be a weak creature and he can be killed.

After reading the first novel, I had few reservations about recommending it for my children to read. But, having read the second one and learned of the contents of the third, I threw the books away and I've warned several fellow Christians about the trilogy and its nefarious intent.

I'm concerned that while the upcoming major movie of the first novel will strip a lot of the anti-Christian content out, that it will still draw adults and children in to read the trilogy. I know that the trailers for the first film are what caused me to seek out the trilogy and start reading in the first place.

He says he’s an athiest, but believes in angels. Satan was an angel (and obviously has him doing his bidding). Pullman recreated the fall in his last book, but the main characters rejoiced in their sexual awakening and were delivered from God(killed God)and believed the lie.

Wouldn’t that make him a Satanist?

I’ll give Pullman and Co. credit for endurance.

For keeping up the struggle for more than forty years of modern history:

I’m praying for better discernment as a parent. The trailer didn’t phase me and it looked really great. That’s quite scary now that I know the rest of the story. When I watched the trailer again, I saw many red flags and was shocked that they passed me by the first time around.

The father of deception is making headway on this one. I can’t believe I was blinded to it at first.

I’ve read the first five pages of the Golden Compass.

I knew it was Satanic as soon as I read the FIRST sentence!!!

It talks about “Lyra and her daemon”!!!!!!!

How much more anti-Christian can you get than that???

Grinding axes sells books. And the books have been selling well, as more people lose faith.

Most atheists don’t waste their time proselytizing (for lack of a better word) - they have more important things to do with their time.

from this description, i can add a few more names that he won't give himself, but others have aptly bestowed upon him. father of lies. prince of darkness. lucifer. first angel: check. most powerful: check. lying sack of poo: check.
from other descriptions, sounds like the guy is well describing satan. the prison camp afterlife, fallen angel, perverse.. all very appropriate.

As an atheist rant this is a straw man argument.

If such a description were true, he wouldn't be God.

FILM SELLS ATHEISM TO KIDS; MAJOR PROTEST LAUNCHED

http://catholicleague.org/catalyst.php?year=2007&month=October&read=2306
http://tinyurl.com/2tdhko

Tuesday October 30, 2007

The Catholic League is calling for a boycott of "The Golden Compass"; the movie opens December 7. It is based on the first book of a trilogy titled, His Dark Materials.

The author of this children's fantasy is Philip Pullman, a noted English atheist. It is his objective to bash Catholicism and promote atheism. To kids. "The Golden Compass" is a film version of the book by that name, and it is being toned down so that Catholics, as well as Protestants, are not enraged.

The second book of the trilogy, The Subtle Knife, is more overt in its hatred of Catholicism than the first book, and the third entry, The Amber Spyglass, is even more blatant. Because "The Golden Compass" is based on the least offensive of the three books, and because it is being further watered down for the big screen, some might wonder why a boycott is warranted.

The Catholic League wants Christians to boycott this movie precisely because it knows that the film is bait for the books: unsuspecting parents who take their children to see the movie may be impelled to buy the three books as a Christmas present. And no parent who wants to bring their children up in the faith will want any part of these books.

We are launching a major educational campaign designed to alert the public to Pullman's game plan. To that end, we have prepared a booklet, "The Golden Compass: Agenda Unmasked." It contains snippets of what reviewers have said about the film and the books, as well as revealing comments made by Pullman himself; it also contains a synopsis of the trilogy. In short, the booklet is not what we are saying about Pullman's work—it is what he and others have said about it.

Pullman represents the new face of atheism: it is aggressive, dogmatic and unrelenting. It is also fueled by hate—by a crusading hatred of all religions, but most especially of ours. His side is counting on our side to lie down and die. He may have experienced little resistance in England, but it's a different story here.

The reason we are starting our protest early is because it takes time to get the word out, and besides, the media love it when we give them something to chew on. The booklet is being mailed to thousands of influential persons, including film critics and Christian leaders.

While Roman Catholicism is the evil force in Pullman's writings, his real goal is to put a positive face on atheism, getting children to buy his message. Thus, we expect more than Catholics will join our protest.

A statement made by Phillip Pullman, the author of The Golden Compass, in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald:

"I've been surprised by how little criticism I've got. Harry Potter's been taking all the flak. I'm a great fan of J.K. Rowling, but the people - mainly from America's Bible Belt - who complain that Harry Potter promotes Satanism or witchcraft obviously haven't got enough in their lives. Meanwhile, I've been flying under the radar, saying things that are far more subversive than anything poor old Harry has said. My books are about killing God."

Forewarned is forearmed, parents.

Trailers for this garbage began last year. The Christmas push will be on us soon, and this moronic drivel will be in front of our children's faces all month.

Tell your friends and families their time and effort would be better spent putting $20 in a Salvation Army bucket and count yourselves fortunate to have missed this perversity.

Had he read the last chapter he would have found out God wins.
