Mizzou controlled both sides of the line.....geesh KU could not tackle either.....KUs smallish QB did play a courageous game.
There is no team that deserves to be the Nation Champion this year. The two best teams right now are probably Florida and USC, but they didn’t take care of business when they should have.
USC losing Booty for a few games hurt them badly. Also too bad Dennis Dixon was injured, or Oregon would be in the BCS Championship.
Out of 22 posts, nobody said “show me”.
But does a team that doesn't have a viable backup quarterback who can step into an important game and win it, really deserve to be national champions? Texas Tech was lucky its game againtst OU last week wasn't 5 minutes longer, because the OU backup quarterback was beginning to make some big completions. If OU had played their backup quarterback more during the second half of games OU was leading by 17 or more points, perhaps it wouldn't have taken till the 4th quarter for the OU offense to start clicking.
“This years National Champion will the the worst champion, ever.”
I watched both games today, and West Virginia looks like a very fine National Champion to me. They’re going to beat either Missouri or Ohio State with ease.
There’s only one undefeated team: University of Hawaii! They should be number 1! (At least they’re the most exciting team to watch.)
OU is an unusual team in that it plays down to it’s competition in some big games.
I enjoy OU’s games just to get to see Sam Bradford make those beautiful throws.
I seriously doubt Colorado and Texas Tech could defeat OU should they be required to play again.
The Missouri game will be one heck of a good game.
Somehow OU will need to find a pass defense if they hope to hold off Missouri.
Don't know. The free kick after a safety follows the same rules as a kickoff in that once the ball travels 10 yards it is a free ball, whether punted, dropkicked or placekicked with a spotter.
I recall telling someone a couple years ago we will soon be crowing a national champion with 2 losses. It could possibly occur this year.
They are slowly getting to a playoff system. The BCS has broken up the old system where we would have two unbeatens locked into bowls away from each other unless one of them was a big independent like ND, PSU, FSU or from the unlocked Big East. And the heavy turnover among Conferences has made realignment no longer a big unthinkable idea. Plus, the ratings for the BCS game and the declining ratings for the other bowls helps to encourage a playoff.
With 120 Division 1A teams, ten conferences of twelve teams each with the two division format and a conference championship game would nicely set up a postseason with a sixteen team playoff (12 conference champs and four wild-cards). They could even use the bowls as hosts for the early round games. Lesser bowls not used would continue to host non-playoff teams as a consolation.
Any team that could win those four playoff games against other top 16 teams would be worthy champ. If an undefeated Tulane, Marshall, Boise State or Hawaii could do that, then I doubt that anyone would question their worthiness after running such a gauntlet. It would be like Villanova in basketball back in the 80’s (when they beat four of the top seven teams).
Kansas Football
A Tradition Since September
You are correct on all counts.
That phrase solely belongs to places like Sturgis....
Yep, it would end up WV vs. OK in the BCS Championship Bowl.
It has been a great weekend for college football, though my UConn Huskies lost, AR won, and USC won.
MO is a team that thrives on being attacked.
The ones that will most likely get the title of champs is WV. Just look at yesterday’s game agaisnt UConn, they were piling on. That should send a message to MO, OU, ete,.
Most likely from a MO fan who really knows what goes on between the two.
I think if you want to avoid a "snore" of a game for the BCS Championship, you want Missouri versus West Virginia. An Ohio State vs. West Virginia matchup could end up being a massacre in West Virginia's favor, mostly because Ohio State's defense is highly vulnerable to any team that plays a "spread" offense well (e.g., Ohio State's loss to Illinois). And West Virginia has one of the best "spread" offenses around....
Your experience and analysis is very similar to mine. One reason for that your quoted statement is true, I suspect, is that during that time period, athletes were all expected to read and be "college material." Now college football is simply a farm system for the NFL, and we have many semi-sentient people playing.
