MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- The curse of No. 2 claimed another victim.

West Virginia is out of the national title race. Ohio State is in.

In a season defined by upsets, Pittsburgh came up with an enormous one, beating the second-ranked Mountaineers 13-9 Saturday night to throw another curveball at the BCS.

A win away from playing for the national championship, the Mountaineers were expected to roll over rival Pittsburgh (5-7) on their way to New Orleans for the Bowl Championship Series title game.

Great job providing an example of how to choke, WVU. Against Pitt!!!

You guys should be fired into orbit for that disaster. At least the Steelers could blame a lousy field for their performance last week.

Hey Lou Holtz even gave Pitt’s Dee (no. 11 in the country) kudos. They played a great game! (And I wanted WVU to win!)

If not for Oklahoma’s QB suffering a concussion in the Texas Tech game ..... OU would be in the final. They’re really good when he’s in there.

Mess? This is the joy of College Football. And proves any day any team can beat the next. Come on Playoffs.

College football season offically ended for me today. WVU choked, and Notre Dame has consistently sucked the whole season.

Well, at least my Steelers are having a decent year.

West Virginia missed 2 short FG, had QB get injured. How can a team that loses to S. Florida and Pitt be this close to the National title game. Who did they beat?

I’m a Big Ten fan but who did Ohio State beat this year. LSU played a killer schedule and lost 2 games in 30T’s on the road. Kansas played Missouri and lost, didn’t play Oklahoma, Texas or Texas Tech.

I think Georgia v LSU or Virginia Tech would be the best national game at this point.

True, the BCS computer might have a problem with that particular game. Probably Georgia then.

I’d rather Oklahoma played a Ohio State... or a USC. We’ll kill Kansas. I’d rather play a top team.

Georgia didn’t even win their own conference. No, gotta support conf. champs.

But GA is the 2nd-ranked team in the BCS rankings (after Ohio St.) now that the top two lost today. Obviously the whole system is messed up — 8-team playoff much needed.

No, gotta support conf. champs.

The BCS has to factor conference champions. Don't win your conference, don't deserve a shot at the title game.

You know what they say about making “assumptions”. I’m a twenty year veteran, retired army officer, who ended up employed in Maryland following retirement. Grew up in Connecticut and went to a very small college with no football program. Sorry, no Maryland Terps tie here...can’t stand any Maryland sports teams. Nice try though haystacks.

Would somebody please tell me who Ohio State beat this year? Seriously, what big game did they win this year? You’ll reward a non-conference schedule that includes Kent State, Youngstown State and Akron with a berth in the national title game? Unbelievable.

P*** and moan all you want about the Buckeyes. Their one loss was against a 9-3 team. You can make an argument they beat the teams they were supposed to beat which is more than you can say for USC who lost to a team with 8 losses and both Oklahoma and Georgia that have losses to teams that finished 6-6.

LOL - Sort of like your ASSumption that I am in a bar and wearing dentures. You're the one who made that rather strange flame out of left field, not me. I do have a bridge, if that counts. (BTW, I was enlisted, so you'll have to forgive me if I'm not rocked over with awe when you state you were an officer.) Not sure why you have a problem with me, but it's certainly not my problem, nor do I care. If my enthusiasm for what could have been a great WV season upsets you, don't read it!

Like that wasn't expected.

How many times does Oklahoma have to spank them in one season?

With the #2 jink operating in seven games this wild season, I wouldn’t be surprised if the BCS ranks Ohio State #2, just for psycological reasons.

I am sure you watched the game (or atleast saw highlights) but even w/the deluge (again!!!) the field was amazing. It was perfect:) So they can forget about that turf...and maybe add a dome? (JK).
