International Ph.D. Scholars Discovered Slain In Campus Apartment; Home Invasion Suspected BATON ROUGE, La., Dec. 14, 2007

Chandrasekhar Reddy Komma and Kiran Kumar Allam, two international Ph.D. students at Louisiana State University, were found dead inside a campus apartment, police said, Friday, Dec. 14, 2007. (AP / CBS)

(CBS/AP) Two international students were found shot to death inside an apartment at a university in the U.S. state of Louisiana, and authorities said Friday the men were likely slain during a home invasion.

The victims, Chandrasekhar Reddy Komma and Kiran Kumar Allam, both international Ph.D. students at Louisiana State University, were found inside an apartment at the Edward Gay complex, police said. They were discovered after a call to campus police Thursday night seeking medical attention.

Authorities did not release their nationalities or other details.

No suspects had been identified.

An emergency text message was sent to students registered for an emergency alert system, but not all students received it, the university said in a news release. The problem was being investigated.

Officials also sent out an e-mail, voice mail message and posted a message to the LSU Web site. Many campuses implemented such emergency alert measures following the mass shooting of 32 people at Virginia Tech earlier this year by a gunman who killed himself.

LSU's police department and Baton Rouge Police are both working the case - they are urging students to use caution when moving about the campus, reports CBS News affiliate WWL-TV.

They also said at no time was any part of the campus under lockdown.

"Well that story is a bit light on details"

Well, looking at their names, they sound Middle Eastern. Perhaps there is some logic or reason in not releasing their nationalities.

We’ve produced a generation of criminals, and let some more cross the border, so we shouldn’t be surprised at the consequences.

Actually, the "nationalities" line seems silly, on the one hand, as the names are so obviously Hindu Indian. OTOH, of course, their parents could have migrated one or more generations ago to, e.g, UK, Australia(some very strong OZ conservatives have Indian names), South Africa (Gandhi lived there for many years, a century ago), etc.

So, we will just have to wait and see -- although there are lots of native criminals in Louisiana, why prey without regard to "race, creed, or color"

The new favorite to blame in Baton Rouge, is of course, New Orleans transplants, or “Katrina victims”.

There is no shortage of criminals prowling South Baton Rouge looking to prey on LSU students.

Do you doubt that transplanted New Orleanians continue to commit crimes at rates similar to what they did in New Orleans?

No, they're Indians. Probably chosen because the likelihood of them owning weapons and being able to defend themselves was quite low.

Oh come on. They’re Indian kids. That part of the campus is near what is euphemistically called a “high crime” area. Most likely these high achieving, hard working young people—people who would have contributed to India’s society if they returned or our own if they stayed—were killed in cold blood by our own home grown feral savages, “underprivileged” victims of poverty, racism, etc........ A damn shame.

That would depend on how you defined to Middle East. However, most people except for Miss. South Carolina understand that India is not part of the Middle East.

Two Doctorate Students Killed on LSU Campus During What Cops Call Home Invasion

—SNIP—

Both men had been shot once in the head, said Charles Zewe, an LSU system spokesman. Three men were seen leaving the area, and police were searching for them.

“From what we’re being told, Komma was bound with a computer cable and shot,” Zewe said. “The other man was found near the door.”

Click here for pictures from the LSU Daily Reveille.

No other violence was reported and the campus was not locked down, though officials were cautioning students about traveling to the university Friday morning and police patrols were increased on campus. Students were taking final exams, and many on the 30,000-student campus had already gone home for the semester break.

“Police actually think it was a straight home invasion and not a concern to the rest of the campus,” said Kristine Calongne, a university spokeswoman.

excerpt-

http://www.wafb.com/Global/story.asp?S=7496248

NEW: A task force made of the LSU Police Department, the Baton Rouge Police Department, Louisiana State Police, and the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office has been assembled to investigate the murders of the two LSU graduate students. Investigators say they are trying to identify and locate three young black males who were seen hurriendly leaving the vicinity of the apartment where the murders occurred. They say the men got into a small to mid-sized four-door car, possibly occupied by a fourth person (driver). The car was seen leaving the complex with its headlights off and headed south on Governor Claiborne before turning its lights back on and turning right (west) on Aster.

looking for updates bump. We had a foreign grad student killed gun toting teens.

No bail for 2nd teen in U. of C. spree

The second teenager charged in a string of violent robberies around the University of Chicago campus last week was denied bail Friday afternoon.

Cook County Circuit Court Judge Israel Desierto agreed with the prosecution that Demetrius Waren, 17, of the 58000 block of South Michigan Avenue, posed a threat to the public. Warren's next court date is Dec. 17.
