This striped rabbit is critically endangered. When being raised as a child I hunted and ate many rabbits. I feel I should take a plight for the endangered and God given beautiful creatures. Revski

If I were hunting rabbit and seen one like yours, I’d run the other way.

INDONESIA, Jakarta – The researchers of Wildlife Conservation Society in Asia have taken the photos of one of the world’s rare rabbits — the Sumatran striped rabbit. A camera trap in the Bukit Barisan National Park in Indonesia captured the images of Sumatran rabbits. These special photos of the rabbit species are the only third recorded.
I’m not sure why because of the very rare sighting.

I'm just curious because sometimes rare sightings are, well, normal. Some critters do not often cross trails with humans, and that is not necessarily a sign of being in any more danger as a species than they have ever been.

There is a butterfly up here, (iirc, the Dakota Skipper butterfly) which a group tried to put on the endangered list. They stated they only were seen for a couple of weeks, and there were not very many of them.

A check of research on the butterfly disclosed that the particular species had been noted in surveys in the early 1900's before much settlement or agricultural development in the area, that they were only seen for a couple of weeks, and there were not very many of them.

In other words, that was their normal state of affairs, and not a result of being endangered.

I was wondering if the striped rabbit was once more prevalent, or if in a similar situation to the butterfly.

Good riddance. I wish all lagomorphs are extinct. They are all criminals and plunderers of ptarmigans.
