On Deep Background – Hillary’s Campaign Staffers Getting Resumes Out.

On Deep Background – Hillary’s Campaign Staffers Getting Resumes Out.

Just off the phone with DC contacts. At least two major PR/Lobbying firms in DC have received a number of resumes and cover letters from Clinton campaign staffers. Apparently they are not being sent to other campaigns yet, as that would be “too disloyal.”

By sending them to the DC firms, they are trying to avoid the “rush to the lifeboats.” That way they can get short-term job back in DC on an issues-related campaign and be available to return to active work for a presidential candidate once it’s down to one or two real possibilities. No one wants to be the "last man standing" in Hillaryland.

The way they are doing it without being caught by a paranoid Hillary is by having the resumes ready to be faxed and e-mailed by a friend, and then simply sending some sort of “John has a long moustache” message to that friend. Then the friend dispatches the faxes and e-mails without any discernable action on the part of the staffer.

Jumping from Hillary to Obama or Edwards right now would be seen as “bad juju,” but a month working on some liberal issue campaign or for some Senator or Congressmember gives them deniability.

The people doing this are not the “true believers” but rather the pros who saw working for Hillary as a way to make a living while positioning themselves for jobs in the next (Democratic) administration. After two years in the administration, it then would be over to a K Street lobbying shop for two or six years, then on to the next campaign, and the cycle repeats itself.

The resumes going out are an indication that they see it as probably over, and that the money will be drying up fast….. and they should know….

Not gonna happen. Rush confirming now that she isn’t going anywhere. Besides, what is on their resume? “Snake?” “Backstabber?” “Dirt-digger extraordinaire?”

The pledges are drying up fast!

There's two types of pledges; pledges for donations and the pledges from super-delegates. The donations may be easier to track than the delegates. But it could be that both are beginning to dry up (the delegates making noise about changing their pledge).

The third dynamic, of course, is public perception and how that plays out in the primaries. And as primaries fall to someone other than Hillary, the greater affect this will have on the pledges.

I doubt many super-delegates want their commitment to create a battle within the party between them and the public. But, time will tell.

I would not count her out yet. Iowa nor NH usually decide the race on either side as history shows.

I also wonder how much “support” at the Iowa polls was from young people from out of state who came to campaign for Obama and participated in the caucus. It’s a strange system there with little to prevent voter fraud as I understand it.

Its still the first inning despite all the excitement from the media.

Agreed that this is very unlikely - they have too much $ to spend on staffers (ride that gravy train).

Where did these rumors come from? Are we sure that they are not being planted to then show the MSM that she is the 2nd comeback kid.

I want to believe that she is in trouble, but just cant ...

However, i am usually wrong on these things

This is reminiscent of Cuba posting up false “Castro es muerte!” messages to see who rises to the bait.

A telltale sign that this, indeed, might be the case is that no reporter has dared ask Osama Obama any real questions yet.

If the name Clinton is attached to a news leak, the truth is hard to find and they could be throwing out some desperate rumours to draw attention to Hillary right now.

Way too early for this. I suspect these stories are planted.

Hillary’s problem is with independents, who can vote in Iowa and New Hampshire. The hard core Democrats will not flee yet. She can win New York’s delegates. She will be strong in Florida. South Carolina generally doesn’t matter because it is not enough delegates for either party, and it splits them.

Hillary’s pros know their Secy of This or Secy of That job won’t happen in another campaign so this campaign is the one they have to push to victory. They will try to do that in Texas and California. NY goes Hillary. Illinois goes Obama.

You don’t need to win Iowa or New Hampshire to win the nomination, true. But I think losing both states could be crippling if you went into them with the universal assumption that you were the annointed winner.

So far, Hillary has been damaged the most. And Romney will be damaged if he loses again, because he also was a favorite to win both states.

That’s why smart candidates set the expectations lower than the results. But it’s too late for hillary or Romney to do that. These were states that both were expected to win.
