I haven’t heard of half of these winners, either in actors or productions, and I’m 27!!
I can certainly agree with Ratatouille winning Best Animated...dunno about Atonement.
I did see No Country For Old Men and really liked it.
Ratatouille is the only movie I saw, and that’s just ‘cuz I’m surrounded by kids who wanted to see it. It was a pretty well-done animation job. I didn’t recognize any of the other stuff, and only some of the actors on the list.
I only saw four movies (in theaters) all year in 2007. Probably even fewer in 2008.
Were they even televised this year?
Nope.
Good. The Golden Globes are a joke with no credibility.
There is really only one show I followed, and that was Battlestar Galactica. Otherwise for comedy the good stuff is easily accessible on-line, or I get the kids to help me perform old Monty Python skits.
Yeah it’s much better without those pesky writers so we can have more reality shows. /sarc

Something about a beautiful woman with a gun! Funny, I can’t talk my wife into carrying one, but at least she doesn’t complain about mine. In fact she’s grateful for them. On a recent trip, she made sure I brought my pistols. I’m currently trying to convince her that we’re in desperate need of a Kimber Eclipse. She says “Well, I’m in desperate need of a Roomba”! Great trade, I say!
I saw Atonement. Struck me as another reductive, ‘classy’ literary adpatation. I hear the book was good though.
I actually thought that No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood were stronger. The problem, I suspect, was that women couldn't embrace "NCFOM" or "TWBB" they way they could Atonement. Sorta like what happened when Shakespeare In Love snagged the "Best Picture" Oscar from Saving Private Ryan.
Joe Wright is an excellent director but I would give the "Best Director" honors to the Coen Bros or P.T. Anderson.
My husband and I want to see that.
We saw “Charlie Wilson’s War” and were most disappointed with the revisionist history. Mike Nichols, what did we expect?
I saw it in the theater. GF wanted to see it, and I was sure that it would be a chick flick, too artsy to be real.
It was a chick flick, but OK until the ending, the interview at the end totally destroyed the story momentum that had been achieved to that point. I heard several less than charitable remarks from the patrons (mostly women) as we were leaving.
Recommendation: Wait for DVD, or avoid.
Rose Byrne so should have won, supporting actress for her role as Ellen Parsons in Damages. Such a great actress.

I liked Atonement as well. A very fasinating film. I’m kind of left still thinking about it. Honestly, it’s a pretty devastating film to watch. Definetly, a film to remember. THE CONSEQUENCES FOR LYING CAN KILL!!!!
