Even though she's a good few years away from taking stubby pencil to paper herself, Dave Grohl's baby daughter Violet gets full credit for influencing her daddy's writing style. Foo Fighters

For the Foo Fighters' founder and frontman, the 2006 birth of his first child added a personal, often confessional tone to his lyrics.

"Having a child made me feel like a superman in a way because I had to be," says Grohl, who turns 39 this month. "Just as I can't be afraid to ride the Spiderman roller coaster at Magic Mountain when it's time, I can't be scared of writing things that I really feel. There are a lot of things that I kept myself from saying over the years."

Nice to see a rock star not taking themselves too serious and staying grounded. And also staying away from politics and being mostly concerned with putting on a good show.

Wow, his new daughter even has a normal-sounding name.

It coulda been worse.

When confronted with Foo, I typically yield to it.

Not fight it.

Have you ever played a show sober?

DG-Yeah, but not in f**king 15 years. When you play sober, you’re hyperaware of everything going on, whereas nonsober shows are fun because you don’t give a f**k—it usually turns into a blood-and-public-nudity display.

When is that quote from? I have heard he still doesn’t feel nearly as comfortable being the front man as he is on drums. You have a lot more protection behind a kit as opposed to just the guitar he plays with now.

I just got an email from my brother in Florida. They saw Foo Fighters with Jimmy Eat World last night and he said the Foos played for almost three hours doing the best show he’s seen. Sounds like you are in for a great show.

You’re in for a real treat. I saw them a couple of months ago. Small venue, tiny (but rabid) audience. They played their hearts out for close to three hours. Awesome.

I met him once in his bar in DC. He looked like a frat boy in a sea of grunge types trying to be like him I suppose.

Awesome. I’m glad to hear they are playing long shows. The one thing I’m not real excited about is that Against Me is opening for them. They get really good reviews but they aren’t really my cup of tea.
