Ixtapa Vacation Ideas?
My L'il Noggin' | Today | Me

Posted on 01/21/2008 10:35:47 AM PST by dadgum

Hi, I am looking for any suggestions regarding where to stay while vacationing this February in Ixtapa. This is a 20th wedding anniversary celebration for my wife and me.

She would prefer an all-inclusive. I would prefer excellent food ( I HATE buffets ). The number #1 priority is peace/relaxation and BEACH space.

TOPICS: Travel
KEYWORDS: ixtapa; mexico; tourism; vacation
Any ideas? Thanks!!!

I’d stay out of Mexico, but that’s just me.

No way I’d go to Mexico, not safe at all.

I am going to go to the Ixtapa forum ( http://www.tripadvisor.com/Packages-g150790-Vacation-Package-Discount-Ixtapa_Ixtapa_Zihuatanejo_Pacific_Coast.html ) and post my thoughts on Fred withdrawing from the GOP primaries. /sarc and a little humor

Ixtapa pretty much sucks unless you like people constantly in your face trying to sell you something, or stealing your stuff if you leave it unattended for a few minutes.

I did an all-inclusive stay there a couple of years ago, and I found nothing about anything in the vicinity to recommend.

I refuse to go to Mexico or buy anything Mexican.

Why don't you go to Costa Rica instead?

The only reason people go to Mexico now is to visit the
whore houses present in all areas, to buy dope or to pimp
for the Mexican tourist industry.

I hope you fit the last!

Well, unfortunately, I fit neither description.

I’m just looking for some ideas from someone who has actually been there.

Shoot, if all I wanted was dope, sex, or “pimping” of tourism, I’d just drive to Vegas..

You want to go to Costa Rica instead. Mexico has fallen way down on quality.

Mexico has gotten to be a very dangerous place even for tourist who are just minding their own business. We have been to Mexico many times both the interior and the border but about 7 years ago we said “no more”.

Go to the next bay over to the city of Zihuatanejo and stay at the "The Tides Zihuatanejo" formerly known as Villa Del Sol. Much nicer beaches and it's more authentic Mexico than the tourist trap of Ixtapa high rises.

Are you looking for fancy, low key villas, or hardcore surfing hangouts?

About $200-$250/night. We are looking for seclusion...relaxation...and very good food.

Coming from Oregon, I wouldn't imagine it costs much more to get to Costa Rica than Ixtapa. Maybe I'm wrong.

I think Costa Rica has something for every budget. The only beach we went to there is Manuel Antonio which we loved -- waves, warm water, not crowded, next to a park teeming with spider monkeys, not too t-shirt-touristy.

If you only gave Costa Rica a quick look, I'd encourage you to check it out a little more. Wish I was there right now.

The Tides Zihuatanejo is a bit expensive but there are a lot of good hotels in Zihuat. Try looking at the Catalina Beach Resort. It’s on a cliff over the main beach. Also at the south end of the Zihuat bay is a secluded beach called Los Gatos (the cat) that is very nice to spend the day.

There’s been a lot of Cartel activity on Mexico’s west coast. (Kiddnappings, drive-bys, etc) I’ve heard it’s bad everywhere at times. Mexico is not real happy with the US right now.

Have you thought about the Mayan Riviera (Yucatan)

The Yucatan side/Mayan Riviera definitely has the better beaches. The only thing is that the Spring Break crowd will probably be there in February.

Most of the spring breakers settle in around Cancun. Never been myself but, there are supposedly some secluded gems to the south.
