____
Academy Award winners previously announced this year:
HONORARY AWARD (Oscar statuette): Robert Boyle
I believe it’s finally Johnny Depp’s turn. I’m disappointed that Keira Knightley was nominated for “Atonement.”
Correction “Wasn’t” nominated. Darn grammar checker.
Cate Blanchett was nominated for two! One of them for playing Bob Dylan.
“Ratatouille” was the worst. Normally, I buy a Pixar film and we watch it over and over. I gave this DVD away. Loved “Meet the Robinsons” and expected “Ratatouille” to be marvelous. It sucked.
How about “Enchanted”? Pity it isn’t up for anything. I really wanted them to recognize the hand drawn annimation. That is art. “Ratatouille” is crap.
Anyone get a hint about original song? My girls NEED to see Zac Efron perform “Ladies Choice”.
just saw “there will be blood”. dey lewis has to be a lock for best actor. fabulous movie.
Day-Lewis has it locked up. It’s been called one of the great performances of all time.
It’s good to see “Juno” get a few nods.
Ooops, sorry. Just saw original song above.
We will be in mourning for the rest of the day. NO Hairspray at all? Come on.
Were the songs in the film of Hairspray written for the movie or were they taken from the BRoadway show? If its the latter then they were not eligible.
Yeah he was great and the movie was the worst combination of overlong and half-baked.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Juno win BP.
“Ladies Choice”, “I Know Where I’ve Been” and “Come so Far, Got so Far to Go” were all written for the movie. They cut some songs from the play to include these.
If they wanted ratings, Zac Efron would be there performing. Every young girl in the country would be glued to the tv. Including mine.
Gotta love Ruby Dee. She’s been in movies since 1939.
yeah, that cracker from KY is due!
And Robert Boyle...99 year old legendary art director who worked on In Cold Blood, Cape Fear (the original), North By Northwest, The Birds and Fiddler on the Roof.
Best Actor is between Daniel Day Lewis and Johnny Depp.... no one else has a chance.
I have three children aged from 15 to 9. They go to a lot of movies and my wife and I go to a few movies.
In the entire list I have only seen two (2) movies; Ratatouille and Transformers.
Glad to see Katyn nominated for Best Foreign movie.
Hopefully that means it will be released here.
The only thing I’ve seen off this whole list is Transformers.
Not into the Artsy Fartsy Anti American drivel myself.
Cate could win Best Supporting Actress for playing a man as Linda Hunt did.
I haven’t seen any at all.
“Enchanted” is up for songs.
I haven’t see “Transformers” yet. I have girls so the hubby and I will be watching.
Huh? Which of the BP nominees fall into that category?
No “Lions for Lambs”, No “Redaction”, No Brian DePalma? I am truly shocked. Not because they deserved any, just that they didn’t give any props to any of them.
I walked out of Michael Clayton because it was so boring. Can’t believe it is being nominated for the highest honor of the year. Johny Depp should win for his many roles he has done in Hollywood.
Knocked up was not nominated????? TRAGIC!!!!
At first I thought they'd remade Eegah!
Why surprised? BP winners tend to be moderately conservative. Three years ago, F9/11 wasn’t nominated for anything either.
A lot of his work is done outside of Hollywood.
Not that I see.
Knightley was not nominated for BEST ACTRESS this time...
In December, I and my friends discussed what movie to watch...They were telling me that JUNO was the movie to watch...But, I managed to convince them to watch NATIONAL TREASURE instead. I had no idea that JUNO was gonna be nominated...
Michael Medved was surprised too...He said that JUNO had some pro-life messages.
KITE RUNNER was mostly ignored...It was nominated for some award in the music category. I agree with Medved that KITE RUNNER was a good movie...The movie was not afraid to show some negative aspects of Islam, like Taliban thugs in Afghanistan.
DiCaprio and Winslet will play a married couple in a movie which will released in December.
I might actually want to see that...How they changed in 11 years...TITANIC came out in 1997.
AMERICAN GANGSTER has been mostly ignored, except for Dee’s nomination.
Crowe and Washington were great...No nomination for them this time.
Check out the Documentary category...TAXI TO NOWHERE is a documentary about some Afghan taxi driver who allegedly died after US soldiers tortured him. Roger Ebert praised that documentary.
NO END IN SIGHT is about “never-ending” Iraq war.
SICKO is a Michael Moore piece on health care.
If I were to watch Oscars, I don’t know if I could sit through the Documentary category without throwing up...What if an anti-war documentary wins? Why not a speech denouncing Bush Administration? It would be interesting to see the reaction of the audience.
