If anyone knows where to find a list of the music Rush uses on a regular basis for the beginning of a segment after a break
That's the music you hear at the top of every hour.
Can you give us a hint of which one?
Ah, O, way to go Ohio?
It has a synthesized sound, kind of like the sound that you hear in the song “Don’t You Want Me” by Human League. But a different beat.
And I am not a huge fan of this type of music, I just cannot get this song out of my head.
I heard Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” bump today. That’s pretty synthesizeristic.
No, it isn’t the main song.
It is usually played after the 2:00.
I WENT BACK TO OHIO
BUT MY CITY WAS GONE
THERE WAS NO TRAIN STATION
THERE WAS NO DOWNTOWN
SOUTH HOWARD HAD DISAPPEARED
ALL MY FAVORITE PLACES
MY CITY HAD BEEN PULLED DOWN
REDUCED TO PARKING SPACES
A, O, WAY TO GO OHIO
WELL I WENT BACK TO OHIO
BUT MY FAMILY WAS GONE
I STOOD ON THE BACK PORCH
THERE WAS NOBODY HOME
I WAS STUNNED AND AMAZED
MY CHILDHOOD MEMORIES
SLOWLY SWIRLED PAST
LIKE THE WIND THROUGH THE TREES
A, O, OH WAY TO GO OHIO
I WENT BACK TO OHIO
BUT MY PRETTY COUNTRYSIDE
HAD BEEN PAVED DOWN THE MIDDLE
BY A GOVERNMENT THAT HAD NO PRIDE
THE FARMS OF OHIO
HAD BEEN REPLACED BY SHOPPING MALLS
AND MUZAK FILLED THE AIR
FROM SENECA TO CUYAHOGA FALLS
SAID, A, O, OH WAY TO GO OHIO
My City Was Gone Lyrics
Artist: The Pretenders
This is the song he has played at the opening of his show since 1994 or so. If you’re talking about bumper music DURING the show, that’s another matter and will need more info, but happy to try to help.
It is played quite often.
It is played during the show.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Ok, it is probably “If you don’t know me by now.... then you will never ever know me.” A parody song by Paul Shanklin to McCain.
LOL, that one is certainly not it.
I haven’t listened to Rush in ages, but he used to play “Simply the Best” by Tina Turner, all the time, and it was usually around 2PM Eastern Time. It’s probably 1984 or so and is dancy and synthesized. Is that it, maybe?
Not Dire Straits
“Come on Eileen” by Dexy’s Midnight Runners?
Some trivia about that song and Rush: He received a letter from The Pretenders about unfair usage. Turns out the letter was sent to him by some leftist outfit. The real Pretenders didn’t even know about it or even heard of Rush. They let Rush use the song on the condition he donate some money to PETA. ROFL!
It’s a shame that Rush doesn’t print the names of the songs that he uses on his website such as what Laura Ingraham does.
That is funny. LOL.
Everything else is on a 2 week rotation.
Except for every once in a while he will ask for a particular song to be played over and over and then placed in the rotation.
The latest was a song by "The Guess Who" called.......something.....I'm drawing a blank.
Matt Drudge’s bumper music was the best, IMO. Stinks that he no longer has a show on Sundays.
I got it!!!!
Everyone’s a Winner - Hot Chocalate
That is the one.
“Fight the Power” (Isley Brothers) and “You Dropped A Bomb On Me” (The Gap Band) are my favorites that he keeps in rotation.
I fell in love with “Windmills of your mind” thanks to Drudge.

I agree that he had some great music, and I seem to recall that he frequently mentioned who it was that he was playing, which was very gracious of him both for the benefit of the artists as well as the listeners.

Yes, I miss his show very much. Even though he dealt with a lot of celebrity and / or entertainment industry stuff that normally doesn't really interest me, he still managed to present it in a way that made it captivating, and I enjoyed it anyhow :-)
He played a lot of music with unique vocals and / or arrangements and haunting melodies....somewhat in that vein is this, which may be of interest....it's been circling around in my fuzzy stoat brain for awhile :-)
Some money = $500 K a year.
It is just radio station bumper music, likely from a music library that the EIB Network pays for.
Everyones a Winner - Hot Chocalate
That is the one.
devolve, you might know this?
Art Bell who used to do Coast-to-Coast on AM had some great music too and it was usually detailed on his site.
IIRC art bell played a lot of cusco, a “new age” group. that’s where i first heard them.
Yes he did...I used to listen to him a lot prior to Y2K....he overhyped that and a few other things so much that I focused my attentions elsewhere.
I ran out and bought Cusco CD's after hearing them on Art Bell :-)

.
Hmmmm -
I might!
Lemme look....
My City Was Gone RAM!! Lol. I see the url. The lyrics are posted in #8 above.
I knew you would have it!!
Witching hour for you!
Not so.
Chrissy Hynde - Pretenders - had to let Rush use it after her parents - Rush fans - threw a fit after she threatened to sue over his use.
.
Midnight at the oasis!
Yup
I knew I had it somewhere
I would have posted your Rush animation but the site was too busy!
Chrissie Hynde said she had no problem with Rush using the song. She also said her mom is a big fan of Rush. I’m sure her mom loved Rush using her daughter’s song.
I knew you had it but I can’t listen to RAM files as I got rid of Real Player.
I am having bad slowness tonight and don’t know if it’s my computer or what.
.
Me too
Slooooooow
Well, I know what that means!
$500K?!? Sounds way too high.
would you happen to know the song in rush’s bumper rotation where the guy says only “rahhhhhh” in a latino sounding song? i would be grateful, thx
