The voices I hear from Capitol Hill now are thin, wispy, weak voices. An authoritarian voice in the fog would be a welcome change, if you ask me. Call it gravely if you wish, I will it a voice of confidence. Barbour in 2012!

Hello Daylilly, While the question of "Why should Haley Barbour run for the Presidency?" wasn't queried of me, if you would forgive me, I'd like to answer that.
Governor Barbour would make an excellent President for a myriad of reasons. Governor Barbour posses a unique talent of appealing to a broad group of constituents, from moderates to hard core conservatives. He is, in not only my, but in many other people's opinions, the only elected official in the affected area of hurricane Katrina that came out not only unscathed, but as a hero! In the confusing aftermath of Katrina before the wind died down he was on the Gulf Coast calming people, making statements and issuing directives and making a difference, while neighboring state leaders fought among themselves or were too afraid to come out of hiding.
Governor Barbour brought a state into budget from a deficit of $709 million.
Barbour has authored the most comprehensive tort system in the nation, restoring balance for plaintiffs and defendants in the state’s civil justice system.
Barbour has increased our K-12 education system by $529 million, the largest increase in the history of our state. Barbour has brought jobs to Mississippi. Even before being inaugurated Barbour began an initiative to create jobs in Mississippi called "The Job Creation Summit" that included Fred Smith, CEO of FedEx and Andrew Card, chief of staff to President Bush (Dec 03). We now have Toyota, Nissan, General Electric, PACCAR, and 50,000 new jobs for Mississippians as a result of that effort.
I could go on and on.
Haley Barbour should be our plan for 2012!

Semper Fidelis,
-Tim

While I admire Barbour and am very pleased with his governance of Mississippi, I no not believe he is a viable candidate for POTUS. He would, however, be an excellent replacement for the bland Thad Cochran.

What I think too many are assuming is that will ever be another free election in this country.

The pattern in all nations that take the sort of hard left turn Obama and his administration will usher in is hold power at all cost.

Obama will be our very own version of Hugo Chavez.

I understand your viewpoint about where Obama is trying to take us with this election, however, I truly believe that as a whole the people will not stand for that end result to occur.
For every loudmouthed liberal there are five conservatives watching and listening. Two to three of those five will be patriots and they are coiled up with rattler shaking. When the time is right, they will strike.

Not all of these fall within your requested guidline ("...what the Governor’s positions were when he was running for office. i.e. how conservative is he?"
I have an effort to include a source and date of the quote if there was one. If I miss one, please bring it to my attention and I will add it post-haste. Thank you.

Haley Barbour on Budget & Economy -
•No New Taxes
•Control Spending
•No "Funny Money Accounting"
•Fund Teachers/Education

Haley Barbour on Abortion -
• "[I support] Protecting the rights of the unborn. I am pro-life. I have been a national spokesman on this issue and will continue to be an advocate for policies which promote the sanctity of human life."
Source: Gubernatorial campaign website, haleybarbour.com, "Issues" Jan 28, 2006

Haley Barbour on Education -
•To keep our best teachers, we should increase the salaries of teachers with more than 25 years experience. My budget will.
For our beginning teachers, we need to give them more support as they learn to manage a classroom full of kids. We lose a third of our new teachers within three years. Every new teacher in our schools should have an experienced teacher serving as a mentor, and we should pay that mentor an extra $1000 for this valuable service. It is more than worth it.

•Our record funding of education is important, but the true test of our commitment to education is not how much we spend; it is the results we demand & achieve for our students. The taxpayers rightly expect us to get their money's worth for what we spend.
Reforms passed last year will help, such as giving local leaders more control over their schools. This year, I ask to expand funding an early childhood education initiative that builds on the network of private child care and Head Start centers.

Haley Barbour on Crime/Gun Control -
•"We've given our highway patrolmen record pay increases. We've passed the Castle law to make sure you can protect yourself in your home. We passed new laws to crack down on felons who commit crimes with guns. Longer, mandatory sentences for gun crimes, but the laws have no negative effect on the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms. I believe in criminal control, not gun control."
Source: Speech at the Neshoba County Fair Jul 26, 2007

Haley Barbour on Energy -
•"East Mississippi is healthy, but I believe there are more opportunities, and we are focused on them. The announcement of the Mississippi Power $1.3 billion coal gasification plant in Kemper County and continued strong performance on I-20 and Neshoba County show that the Meridian area is moving forward. Katrina reconstruction plus the building of a more than $1 billion Strategic Petroleum Reserve facility near Richton will fuel more job growth."

Haley Barbour on Tax Reform -
•"I am against raising anybody's taxes. Mississippi already has the highest state and local taxes in the South. My old boss Ronald Reagan was right: 'To raise taxes while government is on a spending binge is only feeding the beast'"
Source: Gubernatorial campaign website, haleybarbour.com, "Issues" Jan 28, 2006

I know there are other instances, but I lack the time or memory to list them at this time. I encourage others to add to this list, and open it for discussion, as I feel that at this time, there is still no better man or woman for the job for 2012.

Haley Barbour; POTUS, 2012!

Semper Fidelis,
-Tim
