I was a master at Rush N’ Attack in the arcade. No wonder I ended up here on FR.
Since this has developed in to show and tell, I have at least 4 slide rules in my desk including the king, a K&E log log decitrig.
....Knowing your party-line ring.....
This still very alive and useful. I have a main line and one ring and a second line that is actually the party line with two rings that is my fax machine dedicated number. It costs an additional $3. You can have up to 4.
Kind of funny that Windows Vista is on the list.
Adjusting a television's color and hue adjustments
Adjusting the tracking on a VCR
Aiming C-Band Satellite Dish
Oddly enough, I've had to do each of these at least once in the past few months at work--although I adjust the tracking on Sony Beta SP's instead of VHS.
Clock repair?
Shorthand is an excellent skill. I wish it was still taught. It could help students enormously in class. Very few know how to take notes effectively.
I got a USB turntable for Christmas. Load the software on your computer, load an LP on the turntable, and record in a digital format, suitable for iPods, or for burning to CDs.
Wife bought mine at Costco. Pretty cool.
Our 28 y/o daughter has two rotary phones in her home. A wall model in the basement and a bright orange desk phone upstairs. They are hooked up and working. Older than the kid who owns them!
She likes the "retro" look, what can I say?
I just realized last night that i still have MAME Arcade emulator on an old hard drive with a couple of hundred ROMS of the old arcade games.
My GF became obsessed with MS Pac Man, I had to pull her off the computer!
I saw a USB turntable the other day that uses a laser instead of a needle.
Pretty cool....and pretty expensive too.
Wow. Never heard of such. I guess you won’t wear out your records that way, though, will you?
Not unless you want to. Vinyl is on the come back. Yes it is.
When I worked in radio I discovered that 45 rpm singles were "special" versions with punched up bass, vocals, and often even a different arraingement or even recording than the one found on LPs. So the song you heard on the radio "way back when" will be different than the version found on a group's album or modern CD.
Spelling error alert!
DUH!
“arraingement”= arrangement.
I learned to do some rudimentary stuff on a slide rule, after receiving one as a gift from an uncle who was an aeronautical engineer with McDonnel/Douglass. I graduated high school in 1980, but never really had a reason to use the slide rule. But it was cool to play with. Today I think that I could probably use it to multiply 2 numbers, but that is about it...

Hey! Don't forget the "Anti-Skate" setting! I've still got my Dual belt drive turntable, with a Stanton 681-EEEs cartridge in a box down in the basement!

My grandfather was a boot maker (and shoe maker) who learned his trade making boots for the Czar's army (I'm not kidding). After moving to the US, he made the most beautiful cowboy boots, though his specialty eventually became orthopedic shoes. I really regret not learning how to make shoes or boots, just hanging out and watching him. It's quickly becoming a lost art.

Our Stanton 681 EEE wasn’t $2 back than.
